Getting a new GPU, EVGA 780 ACX a good choice?

Hi there! Long time no see, fellas. Im thinking about getting a new GPU as a Christmas gift to myself and I was browsing some GPUs and I came across the EVGA 780 SC ACX and I fell in love. The design, the 12 year lasting fans promise, all the alu fins, my geek senses started buzzing. But is this a good choice? Any other GPUs I should look at? Im out of the PC components game because I can never afford anything I drool over. So can anybody help a vet out? If you're wondering what my specs are look at my signature thingy.

The card you chose is a beast but in my opinion I would put another 40 euro towards it and get the EVGA GTX 780 Dual Classified w/ EVGA ACX Cooler :)

I would save some money and wait till the 290 3rd party coolers come out but that's just me:p

If you ever have plans for watercooling that(or any card for that matter) then make sure blocks are being made for the specific card you want to make sure you can actually obtain one. Only point this out as i think the 780SC ACX has a nonreference cooler.

The difference with that Dual Classified is a higher core clock and a dual BIOS or is there more to it? Im not sure if 40 pounds is worth that, but maybe Im wrong.

Ive always wanted to water-cool, but never had the money to do so. Besides if I do go for it, I bet EVGA will have a block out for it then. And I want to try Nvidia. Ive only had AMD/ATI so its time for a change.

This. It's like a little bit more in cost but the performance is just on a whole new level. It's the very best performing GTX 780 only trading blows with the lightning and apparently the HOF is doing really well also. GTX 780 classified is definitely my favorite card.

:) +1 for classy!

Why would you spent more money on something you can do yourself in literally 30 seconds?

I didn't know I could solder on an 8 pin power connector in 30 seconds. Also why wouldn't you just get a non super clocked gtx 780 with their ACX cooling option... that's the comparison you should have made.

Don't worry about water blocks, the classified not only has a WC option from EVGA but many companies make water blocks for the card because every generation EVGA release a classy because it's their highest performing card.

I was just informing you if you were not aware:)

Also "evga" does not provide blocks besides their hydro series. Real watercooling companies actually make the blocks.

I still advise wait tbh, the 3rd party coolers may perform much better than reference and 780 may drop in price and you could save money. Understandable you would want to switch but for me personally i go for the best performing card i can afford and the past two generations of GPUs that has been AMD.

nobody wins the waiting game.
guess what, 780s will be dirtcheap in 3 years time.

Your logic is irrelevant.. I am advising waiting 3 or 4 weeks not 3 years, besides as it is the 290 beats a 780 even with a crap stock cooler. Waiting will further more solidify that fact granting the OP more performance for his money. You win the waiting game in this situation.

Many people have been waiting since sandy to upgrade to something worth upgrading to. Thats about 3 years and yet many people still have them and will continue to do so until most likely broadwell, which would probably put it over 3 years. A 780 retail price won't drop in a month unless the 3rd party 290 cards release and nvidia needs to price drop to stay competitive.

I wouldn't wait, you could wait for ever in the tech world.

The new 2014 TV's will be out in a few months, so you could say oh I'll wait until then before I buy one, oh but then I may as well wait for this particular brand I like to release theirs, oh but then I may as well wait a bit longer and they'll drop in price, oh but then I'll wait because they are releasing a new series.

There is only so long you can wait, the 290 and a 780 are hardly different, so why not just get a 780? Next you may as well wait for a price drop on the Ti, then oh well you may as well wait for the 800 series, oh then wait for a better cooler...just buy it dude.

how about he waits till maxwell? that's only a few months away and it is gonna give him even more performance for the money. yay let's wait forever.

Few months? More like middle of next year. Less than a month of waiting is not a big deal and gains him more performance for the money and possibly end up spending less.
