GentleTyphoon discontinued? Best alternative?

I researched all day, and decided on the Gentle Typhoon 14... too bad after all that, I can't find it on many of the main PC sites! Haha.

I read through this article, and watched most of the fan reviews on youtube, but I am still in the dark.

http://martinsliquidlab.org/2010/11/04/120mm-fan-testing-on-an-mcr120-radiator-round-6-summary/

Anyone have some other alternatives that have 4 pin PWR management? I would like them to be as quiet as possible at high RPMS (800-1800 min/max).

I don't mind if they are a little loud when doing serious loads, but when watching movies and such, they need to be whisper quiet. I am going to be controlling the fan speeds via my MOBO's fan headers and software

Also - what do you want the fans for? Are they going to be general case fans, or are they going to be replacement fans for a radiator/heatsink etc?

The bigger venders, from which I feel comfortable purchasing from, are out of stock:

It does seem that www.frozencpu.com has them,

but I was hoping to order my cooling parts from www.performance-pcs.com

I was looking to purchase four 120mm's for two XSPC Radiators, and one for an case rear exaust fan

RAD Bottom: $69.95

RAD Top: $49.95

Well, you could go for Noctua NF-F12 fans for the rads and a matching NF-S12B for the exhaust.

There are also good fans made by Bitfenix (Spectre and Spectre Pro fans).

They're just the two that come to me first, but there are plenty of good fans out there.

NF-F12's kill the GT's

Yes, it seems that the NF-F12's are a good performing fan, but I'm vein, and they are UGLY as all hell. If I were creating a desert themed military type case (I wish I had the time and money for that), then they would be PERFECT! But, I'm not, haha.

I have been looking into these new Corsair fans, but there are no youtube reviews. I searched around this forum, and they have been mentioned, but I don't believe anyone actually owns a pair.

Damn, I just noticed in the images (top left), that they are only a three pin power connection. This means I wouldn't be able to use PWM on them, right? They would look perfect in my build!

I have considered the Cougar CF-V12HP 120mm fans, but again, they are orrange =(

@Tom, sorry, but I have to geek out here a bit (which I think is acceptable in a forum such as this), you're the man! I have been watching all of your videos about water cooling, and you gave me the confidence to give it a go! I'm still researching and purchasing, so it will be a couple of months until I add it into my system, which isn't even built yet (the pieces are sitting on my table ready to be assembled).

@PetrolHead247, thanks for that post! I had researched these fans and heard that you shouldn't paint them, because that ruins them. This dyeing technique seems to solve that issue! Only issue I have is that by dying them, I'm rather certain you void the 1-year warranty, which isn't very long anyway.

$23 for a fan is a bit expensive, but I will fit it into the budget, I guess.

EDIT: It seems they have a 6 year warranty:

if you are looking for a cheaper alternative

Akasa Apache SuperSilent 120mm fans are great (they now come in matt black too)

http://www.performan...oducts_id=27422

They have the lookg going for them.

They are priced right.

They are a little slower than the F12's.

They don't have the rubber paddings.

I can't find any youtube vidoes on them.

--------------------------------------------------------------

As for the F12's, this is what their static preausre is rated at (as I am using them in high fin density RADS):

Static Pressure: 2,61 mm H2O

Static Pressure with L.N.A.: 1,83 mm H2O

Now,

A.) Is that good statci preasure?

B.) What is LNA?

Thanks.

Wow, I'm impressed with the Be Quiet fans! They are really quiet. But do they push enough air? They have half the static preasure as the F12's, it seems:

http://www.bequiet.com/en/casefans/263

Fan speed @ 12V (rpm): 1500

Air flow @ 12V (cfm, m3/h): 50.5 / 85

Air pressure @ 12V (mm H2O): 1.63

Noise level @ 12V (dB(A)): 18.9

EITHER WAY, it seems that I can't get them in the states =/

There are several different versions of the Shadow Wings, you want the Shadow Wing SW1 same as the ones in the link I posted.

Yeah, I can't get them in the states.

Still, I have a question for you. The ones you linked were 3pin connectors. The ones I linked to are 4 pin PWM.

Can I still take advantage of the variable voltages, and therefore RPMs, with a 3 pin fan connector? I plan on using a fan program in my MOBO's software bundle.

The Apache's and the Be Quiet's Sieb linked have very similar stats to the Noctua's

Apache Stats:

Air Flow: 57.53CFM

Air Pressure: 2.64mm H2O

Noise: 16.5dBA

Fan Speed: 600 - 1300RPM

Shadow Wing SW1:

Air Flow: 76.2CFM

Air Pressure: 2.7mm H2O

Noise: 29.7dBA

Fan Speed: 2200RPM

^^^ yes, as you can see above, they are very similar

but it is that catch-22 conundrum again, THROUGHPUT or SILENCE. unfortunately you cannot have both.

the S-FLOW are Akasa's SickleFlow equivalent.... not their SuperSilent version

LNA = Low Noise Adapter

i used to have a pair of Apache SuperSilent 120's in a push/pull config (w/ LNAs) on a Coolit Vantage AIO watercooling system. the only thing i could hear was the pump.

i still have them
