General Q's; VGA, HDMI & 1080p

Basically, for some reason when I set my screen resolution to 1080p when using HDMI it stretches out beyond the screen and what is displayed is only 1680x1050 of the 1920x1080 image (example) but If I use a VGA cable I can set my resolution to 1080p without this happening. I've tried both the DVI and the mHDMI port on my card but it still happens.

The monitor I'm using (really, it's a TV) is an LG 22ls4d which has it's maximum resolution listed at 1680x1050 but why is it then that I can get 1080p over VGA?

Also, why is it people don't recommend you use VGA? (for example) I can't see a difference in the image quality vs HDMI.

Think it's something to do with the scaling, check your TV settings and then your GPU settings to see whether the resolution is being scaled. Had the same issue with the family TV, it cut off the bottom and top a little bit.

The only thing i could suggest is changing the aspect ratio on the tv to match up with the settings on the computer. because vga doesnt transmit as much pixels as a hdmi. the more pixels might cause it to be a diffrent image size.

I tried changing the settings in the nVidia control panel to scale the image to full screen and also tried doing it via the display with no luck. I've had issues before with TV's where it was misaligned but never where the image was too large to fit on the screen.

I have it set at a 16:9 aspect ratio on my TV and then set it in nvidia control panel to scale via the display with no luck. :/

People dont recommend analog i think because its an analog signal and would often carry a less than perfect image etc..

Only my personal thoughts so i could be wrong.

lolwat, running either vga, dvi or hdmi to my monitor the picture looks 100% the same and its 1080p

@ op im pretty sure by "vga monitor" he meant the older ones that only have vga and are generally a lower quality to more modern screens, ive been running my screen on vga since i got it even tho it has dvi and hdmi and when i compared it to dvi/hdmi i noticed no difference.
