General hardware problems poss relating to PSU failure

I did check seating i.e. the paste was flattened.

Does the bios have a gpu temperature monitor? I know there is one for the CPU, but where is the GPU monitor please?

....this 'INITIAL boot up' was on a brand new clean hard drive with no operating system installed. Therefore, I only had the bios monitor to go on at that stage you see?

The BIOS will not display your GPU temps. You will need some software (be it in the drivers or other) to get a correct readout.

After reading your other thread it just sounds like a simple case of your PSU dying and taking everything else with it. Its not uncommon, its happened to me and others. You've just got to get everything tested and then RMA the broken parts.

Yep, although you may feel the PSU going is your fault, technically the component manufacturers are at fault for not fitting surge protection, so just RMA the lot (after testing that is)

as above, when building your own computer you do need to take the responsibilty to check your temps. however unlucky you may have been, you do need to take it upon yourself to check your pc is healthy, and aprt from anything else, i hope you have learnt a valuable lesson.

as XMS says, psu taking components with it isnt uncommon, but luckily u shd be able to rma and move on.

davos how do I check temps please?

I only have the bios!

Its a new HDD with no operating system so I can't load application programs that check temps on to it!

You get a display on the screen correct? If so then your GPU is not broken...or most likely isn't broken.

Then you want a thermometer

An electric one with a probe will do, you need to embed it as close to the GPU core as possible and maybe try get it in contact with some TIM (all depends on size of probe)
