Geforce 6800GS (AGP)

Vomit

New member
Just bought this card, heres a few piccies(sorry about the low quality, was taken on my phone.) Was bigger than i thought it would be, only just fit in my pc!

Havn't really had much chance to test it out but for some reason since installing it my pc seems like its running slower.

Was wondering if that could have something to do with a lack of power maybe? As it said to connect the card to the psu with the power dongle.

Anyway heres what it says on my psu

"Q-Tec

switchging power supply model ATX:350

output 350W max

RED + 5v ;;;;; 35A

YELLOW + 12v ;;;;; 17A

WHITE - 5v ;;;;; 0.5A

BLUE - 12v ;;;;; 0.5A

ORANGE + 3.3v ;;;; 20A

PURPLY + 5VSB ;;;;; 2.0A

GREY P.G

BLACK GND

GREEN PS-ON

(also has 2 little grid things followed by)

+5V & +3.3B TOTAL OUTPUT 180W"

So yeah i dont have much of a clue about PSUs but apparantly 350w is enough for the 6800GS, any oppinions?

i have one of these running off a 400w power supply. as far as slowing down windows i wouldnt think it would be power related, when its a power problem you just tend to get crashes and hardware failure. what drivers are you using?

the latest ones are fairly decent, im using them now. after you have installed them, follow this link to unlock the Clockspeed options:

Here

Yeah i overclocked by 5700LE, know how to do that stuff. But im going to wait to see if it runs ok before overclocking as it voids the guarantee doesn't it?

Ok wierd went to install the new drivers and it came up "The NVIDIA setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatable with your current hardware. setup will now exit."

eh?

try uninstall the current drivers (unless default), reboot, then try install it again. also check everything is set up properly in the bios. other than that i cant think why that would be. i did have that problem but i dont know how i fixed it :o

Hmm couldn't really find anything in the bios and the drivers i was using were the default from the cd. Let me know if you remember how you fixed it!

Make SURE you totaly uninstall ALL the old drivers and windows is using its defult *generic VGA drivers*. Tbh you should have just installed the new ones striaght away.

It wouldn't supprise me if it is your PSU however, as it says 350W max, out 170w is f**k all. Llwyds is a 400w true(ish). Can you get hold of a true 350/400W psu to test it?

Yeah i uninstalled it totally and then tried installing the new drivers and still wouldn't do it, said the same thing. Cant get my hands on another psu unless i buy one, im at uni away from anyone that would have one i could test out lol.

Can you afford to buy one? Ive no personal experiance with them but from what ive heard Q-Tec are...well balls.

Afford... not really... spend student loan on... possibly! lol

Just tried that driver cleaner thing, no change.

What would be a good psu to buy?

Not too sure.... Only thing i am sure of is this thing is ticking me off severly!

God bless the day when pc's become hastle free.

Ok just looked at the side of the box that has been facing me the whole time and peeled off the stupid sticker that was on it, to read "minimum system power supply 450W"..... they really chose their places to stick stuff! So yeah looks like ill try going for a new PSU!

Then again city-link dont deliver to student halls... darn...

Hmm hows JEANTECH?
