Gaming+Streaming Build Help ( 6700K/Z170 or 5820K/x99 )

hi there,
I am currently in the market to build a computer capable of twitch streaming my game-play on 1920x1080 resolution. I will be playing games like Overwatch, Battlefield 1, Heroes of the Storm, H1Z1 etc.

I was initially going to go with the 5820k because it has 6 cores versus the 6700k's 4, but is that overkill? Can the 6700k game and stream just as well? also any noticeable difference bewteen Z170 vs x99? I am undecided atm and appreciate any input you guys can give on the cpu dilemma or other build advice. :)

ps. I already have a Msi 980ti graphics card I will be reusing.

I will either use OBS or XSplit to stream my gameplay to twitch.

As far as I am aware both Xsplit and OBS use GPU based encoding for video streams, so you should be fine with the i7 6700K.

The 6700K will also get a higher overclock and has increased single-threaded performance, which is more important while gaming than core/thread count.

With OBS and Xsplit, you can either use a GPU encoding based stream or a CPU, but I think for OBS if I heard from a streamer a while ago correctly is that the GPU one is more efficient and has less impact on the overall performance. Although some games may be different depending on the loads they put out on the CPU/GPU, so just experiment.

While I agree the 6700k would be better for gaming, I personally would advise X99. Having gone the 6700k route, I can say I really wish I went for X99.

Why are you second guessing the 6700k choice?

thanks for the help so far guys, but I am still confused/undecided, so hopefully I get a few more replies!

Because X99 will last longer and has a more clear upgrade path since sockets don't change. And the fact that gaming performance differences isn't worth anything of significance between them, I'd rather have the extra cores and stronger platform overall. I only went Z170 because ITX boards were easier to get(cheaper/more vairety) and I got my board/CPU for a total of $120 off, I paid the same amount as if I bought the 6800k by itself.

To be honest, I can stream using my i5 and previously with a GTX 970. As long as you are using the GPU based X264 codec you will see little or no performance impact.

I have used both xSplit and OBS. Geforce Experience now has full Twitch integration that I have been using for a while, works really well.
