so after 6 years of inactiviy on my account... check the signature out LOL !

im back. and i want to build a gaming rig.

im thinking

16gigs of ram @ 2400
either 290x or 780ti - leaning more towards the 290x since mantle is coming out also pref non reference model
socket 1150 mobo that is cf/sli ready
cpu - 4770k
850w psu
128g SSD

now my questions are.
1: should i go 2011 socket ?
2: cf/sli ... back in the day cf was horrible... how does it fare today ?
3: how does amd fx cpu black edition fare worth it for gaming ? is intel better ?

from my research thus far amd cpus are still behind on intel ?

any opinions/help is really appreciated :)

i play alot pf fps shooters so need a powerful rig for some serious fps. triple digits :P

will i get it with this rig ?

No point in going 2011 really for a gaming rig.

Go for the 4770k (and an 1150 motherboard - not 1155*)

Intel is still better than AMD for now yes, although as the next gen consoles both use AMD processors and GPUs, over the next few years we may see the two get a little closer.

As for CF/SLI, it's a lot better now than it was, but you're still better off with a single high end card over SLI mid-range cards. Feel free to add another at another point in time if you do want more performance.

I'd still personally go for a 780 over the 290X. Regardless of non-reference coolers, it's still going to be a hot card - but I'm sure either choice will be fine.

PS - I'm sure you're planning to anyway, but would you mind editing your signature since it's a little large? We now have constraints to stop you going over 8 lines I believe, but that obviously wasn't around when you made it. Thanks

Just for gaming, go with 4670k, funny thing with the 4670k and 4770k... Out if the box the 4770k is better, but if you clock both (yes both) to 4.2GHz they equal out in gaming, it's pure madness I tell you. I found that out in one of the Guvnors videos, think it was the 4670k review video.

Thanks for the comments ! will do abit more research.

mother board wise, i was thinking of the MSI g45 gaming edition. is it worth getting the g65 ? any difference ?

i would like a dual cf/sli ready mobo
