Games Constantly Crashing

Hey guys, Since build my new rig I have been exceptionally happy with it. However I do seem to have a few problems; one of these being that my games, no matter which one will crash at a random point while playing, be it at 10 minutes, 30 mins, 2 hours etc. I will simply be playing the game and it will crash down, usually with an error report.

I have games on steam and have retail copy's and both will crash. I have tried running them as the administrator but this doesn't work either and I always run steam as the administrator.

EDIT: All my drivers and everything like that have always been completely up to date.

EDIT 2: Oh and now I can't even start up borderlands due to it crashing due to bad index name or something like that, any Ideas on this?

I simply do not know what the problem is. Could anyone perhaps point me in the right direction? Thanks.

what are your rig specs?

Bad index name sounds like a file error either with the game folder or the HDD. If you have another HDD try installing and running a game from that.

if it only happens when gaming try....

completely re-installing DirectX (or install the June 2010 DXSDK)

use a registry cleaner before the new install
