Game connection lost

Hi guys i when i play any online games my game allways freezs and says connection interupted then next 10 sec or so it gose away but im still in the server but it is anoying the S*** outta me cause i cant fly drive anything cause it makes me crash so please help! its not over heating or anything i just got this computer not to long ago it has 2gigs dual quad proccessor vista i hate vista!!! graphics card 8800 nvidia Please Help!

whats upnp ?? but hey remember if its for inter net connction i guess it is .... becouse i have a computer next to this one and it runs fine with the internet but its xp and this is vista and its a velcan router and ill do the ping right now.

it isent stoping.... or dose it stop excatly at 5 min ohh yea and i keep geting a jump in the ping it gose from 93 ms to somwhere in 1953 ms it dose it like each time i usualy get the connection problume ingame.

i got 0 packets lost this isent the finished one tho

And again it dosent disconnect me from the server i just get the message and the game freezs but 10 or so sec later it gose away but it is anoyying it allways makes me crash a jet heli or truck or car...

Just a thought that's probably nothing like helpful, but have you scanned for malware, spyware etc..

Some of them upload quite a bit and can mes up your connection.

hmm those ping times are terrible what country are you in?

Am guessing you in the states do the same test but with mit.edu, if not pick a local domain to test with note not all domains accept icmp packets and your test might just time out.

ping mit.edu -t

to stop the ping you can press ctrl+c

That jump in the time is definatually not good but you will need to get the same results on a local domain to rule out any cross atlantic connection bottlenecks etc. If the same results happen and you are getting this intermittent connection, I guess for comparison you could try the same thing on the other computer on your network. Get that result see if everything is fine.

after that you can use

tracert mit.edu

this will follow the route to the mit.edu domain it will hopefully show at which point the time jumps.

Do you have a firewall installed?

Things to test, hardwire the connection see if that improves it or not, try different driver versions, try a different wireless card. Get back with the results and we will take it form there.

Also it will be worthwhile disabling the firewall and testing and possibly removing the firewall as another test, I say remove and not just disable as some firewalls are still active on different levels when disabled.

Just a case of now finding out what is causing that spike in the connection, software like ping plotter might be of use to you but it only adds a graphical element to what you are doing on the command line.

EDIT: Try statically assigning your computer an IP if you do not already also for testing put it in the DMZ on your router.

Ok before I move on to some possibly useless test if you can confirm the following.

This only happens on the one computer correct?

Can you confirm what setup you have. e.g. modem > wireless router > wifi connection pc

or is it a modem/router in one unit? also include modem and router brand and model numbers.

how many computers on your network? are they all wireless?

When did the problems start? have any changes happened to cause the problems? suchas updated the computer, firewall installation etc.

This is quite an interesting thread for me actually, I am in a flat where I share a wireless connection with 3/4 other people. It is not my router so I am unable to fiddle with the settings. I did login with the standard login and assigned ports to me but they've changed the password since...

Anyway, I'm having the same sort of problem. Pings to OC3D are 27-30ms and then you get the 1 odd high one of 1900ms or a timeout. This occurs every 30-60 pings. The ping before and after the high ping is fine, so it's not anyone else loading a webpage. I put this simply down to wireless being crap, but if some network gurus could help here I'd love it
