Galaxy are to release an 8800GT with 3-phase power, as opposed to the standard 2 (seen above on the "naked" picture- the missing phase is in the middle.)

They have also beefed up the cooler to something with 2 heatpipes.

Its not a massive difference, but a welcome one all the same.
 
I was under the impression that the 3rd phse would be adefinite requirement for 1GB cards so it makes sense to have a common design/manufacture process to keep costs down.

Of course it's all sold to us as a massive benefit - which it has but it's as much a benefit to them.
 
1GB cards are imminent - I think pencilled for December release, be happy in the knowledge that the release price will be in the region of current 512MB units.
 
a three phase model should and I mean should offer better power supply to the gpu core - handy in extreme overclocking. However I'm unsure if it is necessary as I don't know the current draw of the 8800GT chip. If it isn't anything massive then the 3rd phase isn't so necessary...
