GA-Z77X-UD4H or Z77 Mpower Big Bang II or 990FX Sabertooth?

Hello all, building my first PC and need help choosing from the mentioned motherboards. I have the Big Bang on order since Tom mentioned it on his best of 2012 video, but now that he released the Gigabyte overclocking video I'm leaning towards a Gigabyte board since he made it so easy to follow and something I could actually do. The UD4H has the best color scheme of all the Z77s. If I go Intel I will go with a i5-3570k but I am reading that the FX-8350 is awesome for gaming lately so I am looking into that also.

So far all I have purchased so far is a Vengeance C70 military green case, AX850 power supply and a Samsung 840 Pro 250gb SSD.

I am interested in overclocking eventually and will run with a H110 but my main priority is games and eventually CAD and autocad as I will be going back to school for architecture hopefully this fall.

Thanks for you help. I'd like to keep under $200 USD for the motherboard choice.

welcome to the OC3D forums,

you'd mentioned gaming, but it seems to be majorly for CAD?

from my experience on CAD/CAM with GIBBS/Autodesk/MasterCAM thread count
is a major option to have. the single threaded performance the 3570k will offer is
meager. like Adobe and layers the refresh is all in command of the CPU. the GPU
choice will often make the screen render quicker, without lag and ghosting. most
softies can work on either platform. for best i found the Intel handled the softies
just great. the AMD functioned and worked, but always with lag a instruction issues.

if you are planning to keep this for CAD/CAM id opt for the Intel platform. and
tbh you should look into the 2011 platform. the 1155 platform is fine, but
productivity is no match for the 2011 LGA platform. you can use the 1155/FX
platforms, but the caveat is speed and productivity.

for the best i found
i7-3930k (4.0-4.4GHz overclock)
ASUS Rampage IV Formula or Extreme
16/32gb 1866/2133 RAM
SLI/CFX GPU (SLI for some softwares)

to settle for 2nd best
i7-3770K (4.3-4.5GHz overclock)
MSI GD65 or MPower (not enough diff for price diff use the GD65)
16gb (2x 8gb) RAM 2133

dont think the productivity is there, but:
FX-8350 (4.5-4.8GHz overclock)
ASUS Crosshair V
16gb (2x 8gb) RAM 2133

but if the majority is gaming with CAD secondary,
i5-3570K (4.3-4.5GHz overclock)
MSI GD65
8gb (2x 4gb) RAM 2133

just some efforts id found using CAD/CAM

Airdeano pretty much sums it up, but I hear what youre saying on design/colours on the UD4/Sabertooth/Mpower.
Are we to undestand that your not at all a fan on the overall blue scheme on mobos, this being the reason you havent listed the usual suspects from MSI/Asus?

members here have blacked out the blue/yellow accents on boards.. using
permanent marker, paint, and what-not..

still dont know what the intentions are for this build.. seems to be asthetics more
than function.

I am looking for a solid motherboard that will be used for gaming and light at architecture cad homework. If it is nice looking also that would be a plus.

As much as I'd like I can't afford a 2011 setup at this point until after I get married maybe.

If you would want to paint the MPower, use nail polish :)
Cheap, easy to remove, looks great.
Anyways, Airdeano pretty much summed it up!
Cheers!
