Had an email from Nvidia today (typical newsletterthing, nothing exlusive) which states:

Join us Saturday, November 11, 2006

The NVIDIA Reality Tour will showcase the latest jaw-droppingly powerful, incredibly true-to-life PC gaming solution at a retailer near you on November 11, 2006.

You can experience first-hand NVIDIA's next-generation PC gaming platform at a store near you. Compete in head-to-head mini tournaments, win NVIDIA prizes, and talk to NVIDIA representatives. Learn more about the Reality Tour and locations near you

Which strongly suggests to me that this (albeit a Saturday) will be the launch date of the G80 - which will be known as the Geforce 8800.

Birmingham huh... to go or not to go......

EDIT: Nvidia have the C55 boards "released" on Nov 7th apparently, so would be an excellent chance to see both in action, and hopefully see first-hand what the C55 retail can do

Truth be known I will probably skip this card and wait for the 8900 to come out (aka G81).

Reasoning behind it is simple - I am convinced that 90nm has reached its clocking levels and doubt if the overclockability on these will be any good until they switch to 80nm of 65nm processes. Also, this is the 1st DX10 card so there will be things in there that perhaps can be easily changed in the interim release.

Unlike the X1950, these are clocked lower than current releases yet are much faster (as you would expect), so I am guessing that the architecture is a massive improvement on what we are seeing now, taking into account that 90nm ceiling is around 800mhz for watercooling if the G80 can reach 700+ we are in for a treat.

Don't forget that G80 will continue to use DDR3, BAZX made a comment of this as well - the DDR3 that the G80 uses really does need to be more overclockable than what is currently in use on the G71 (the DDR3 used here is not very overclockable). We dont really understand how important that is, the new architecture has improved the bandwidth substantially so maybe we dont need the RAM to be as fast as was required for G71, proving my other poiint that the 7900's were limited by their memory bus, making it (the 7900's) a disappointing upgrade from a 7800 in terms of bang per buck (albeit faster, not exactly revolutionary) we all still wish they had used the same DDR3 that was used on the 512MB 7800's.

Or having said all that - if it works as well as is being touted (single card as fast as 2x 7900GTX) then I might wait until the price comes down a bit and get one then ;)

I have signed up for the event - especially as I live right close to B'ham :) (finally an event I can justify travelling too)

Wise words mate.

FWIW, the G80 IS as fast as 2 7900GTX's ;)

Been speaking to Kenny thismorn, he came up with a great idea for the event. Will post details if it comes off ;)

I've signed up,not that i'm considering anything nvidia yet,but i'd like to meet a few of you, check out the hardware, laugh at the testing/benching,and besides,i don't get many good excuses to leave this chair.Anyone wishing to meet up,drop me a pm,with a mobile #.

I get the cynical feeling it would be at 11 am, but odnt quote me on that.

nV have been quiet with details since announcing this... we need to plan transport and accommodation!

Indeed! People are welcome to kip/get drunk at mine before/after the event if they want.

Won't charge (much ;)) and you dont get brekkie in bed :p

If it did they had better start with a 2 minute silence otherwise i would be totally disgusted.

I`d be disgusted if they tried to tie to rememberance day in any way. The lives of hundreds of thousands of men Vs a GPU? I think not.

Thats not bad price for the hardware that is being provided.

Sure to go only one way though after release.

I assume the £315 is for the GT (presumably less ram)?

£315 for the GTS yea, "only" 640MB RAM compared to the 768MB of the GTX, probs also a cut in shaders
