Hey guys just bringing this to your attention.

It is a modified monitor with the G-SYNC board and is available NOW for £441 at Scan

£440 doesn't justify G-Sync. I'd rather get a 1080p@120Hz and put the savings into a better GPU to power it.

I totally agree, as a guy who just spent half that for a 1440p monitor it seems a ridiculous price.

I hope the high price is due to tech being new and will drop in the future, not because nVidia wants a fat profit margin from the tech.

It's a combination of many factors, Nvidia will need to get the R&D money back for designing G-SYNC and I also think that the G-SYNC units are not being produced in large enough quantities to be cheap yet.

Then there is also the General Nvidia thing now that they release something with a super large price tag to the later have a price drop, or release a cheaper cut down model like the GTX 780 (don't think that this can apply to monitors though, perhaps 60FPS models), to make the tech seem like a real bargain.

As with all new technologies it's ridiculously expensive when it comes out, but as long as they come down within the next couple of years, I hope my next monitor(s) will be some lovely G-Sync 1440p IPS panels :D

Sigh* this is what I feared. I am certainly not going to pay that and for a TN panel as well. I'll wait for a nice IPS 1440p at a reasonable price before i upgrade I think

You got a 1440p monitor for £220 ???

Well... 250 pound. Would have been 220 if I bought the version without an osd or HDMI, and display port.

Korean checked (pixel perfect) panel. Old monitor is dieing so I saved and bought it. Its a Samsung panel.

Will be writing up my experience when I have had time to test it.

Would be cool if the G-Sync device could be plugged in inbetween the monitor and the graphics card, An add on box or something instead of having to buy a whole new monitor :)

the only way i see that happening is if nvidia think they will make more money selling add on kits to actually selling new moniters. honestly? after physx and the new thing about there codecs not being open etc i cant see that happening :( (makes me sad as i just splashed out on a new screen couple months ago)

That doesn't make sense, because nVidia doesn't sell the monitor. They will sell the hardware to manufacturers of monitors, or take a sizeable chunk as a royalty. They have also already said they will be selling G-Sync devices for you to put in your own monitors, afaik, although it only applies to specifics.

Not sure how it all works exactly, but that should be possible, right? We might hear more about this in 2014.

Sadly i don't think it is, the problem G-SYNC has addressed was by allowing variable frame rate.
A pass through box wouldn't make your current monitor suddenly allow a variable frame-rate, it would still be locked to its 60Hz (or whatever you guys have) frequency. :(

Ah, well that's a shame.

I don't know what patents nVidia has, but I hope we see some clones and other versions of this before long that will also allow AMD cards to have the benefit, and cut nVidia's ridiculous pricing out of the equation.
