Hi guys,

been a while, got a fx55 SD comng in the week & was just wondering how many of you are going to splash out for one of these babes?

Looking around shows some good first results.... Like here...

3.42Ghz SuperPI 1Mb stable on standard phase change looks nice......

Maybe if i sell a kidney i could get one for my LS :p

Would need a new motherboard as well, or at least one that can run dual channel mode without issues, and my wallet is so light and empty :o

They can be had for a mere £550<img>

Wow thats a nice price. PM me where that is please.

Dont forget to update us with how the benchies go. Think theres a few of us here interested in how these babies clock :D

550 is alot but if you have to live on the bleeding edge :P

ive got away with a p4 2.4c at 3.8ghz on 60 quid watercooling

a venice 3000 at 2.835ghz

got both of them for 200 quid with a score to spare :)

You're all loons, £550 on a processor?! I'd rather clock the ******** out of a cheap one!

Thats the difference d00d. It would be a lot less hassle if we all went down to Tiny or PC World and settle for a box of crap that had a shiny intel sticker on. Instead most of us are loons for spending the vast amounts on extreme cooling and hardcore components.

Extreme cooling I understand (and love) but why I'd want to spend £500 on a processor that overclocks about the same as a much cheaper one is beyond me.

Wouldn't stop me getting one if I had the money tho :D

Well how I see it if I buy an FX55 I've got a chip that does 2.6 at stock with 1 mb cache for example - you can buy a cheaper cpu, that will do 2.2 with 512mb at stock - its all about the stock speeds, not the overclocked speeds, and there is some kudos with the 55 still..

Plus theres the resale value too. An FX chip will always hold its value imo

I just ordered one too, should be here tomoz - although I am already thinking how those x2 CPU's will overclock.

Ive looked into them and for benchies, it appears that they wont be much better if any than the single core chips. There great for multi tasking but if your just a gamer/bencher then you will see little improvement.

Let us know how ya get on with the FX-55 SD though :)

The only reviews I have seen are using an ASUS SLI mobo - which is voltage limited (1.55v) so the max overclock will not be realised.

The 4800 (2x4000 CPU's) is quicker in single threaded apps by about 5% at stock compared to the clawhammer 4000+ unit.

But I really would like to see somene thrash out a great OC using phase change and let RIP and post some results.

Multithread is good for media encoding, which gets you right up there in the customPC benchies which is where the P4's dominate right now - I just fancied a piece of the CPC action (I was once top 5 with my prescott).

Will fit SD tomoz, probably play around with it for a while and let you know by the weekend.

Weren't there a couple of people with X2 4400+ at 3Ghz on air? Also with top of the line cpu's like the FX they often overclock better than other cpu's due to speed binning etc.

ive seen the 4800s at 3ghx on air but they were early test samples i think id imagine on phase you would hit serious clocks under serious volts

edit : sorry double post

yeh i know what you mean about speed binning... just like the xp-m were the cream of teh crop the fx's are the ones that rise to the top
