Fun Little Cascade Project [56K Will Commit Suicide]

No thats breakfast ;)

PID! All programmed up, right now itll trigger via relay set 1 at -30C to turn on the second stage. Woohoo. Gotta see if I can make it safely turn off the second if first gets too warm. But I think I'll handle that in tuning as well.

Sneaky update....

Just r290 in first, and just r290 in second, thus high side pressure of 2psi, and low, well low. Going to mix that up soon though ;)

So here is the liquid r290 very very very slowly pooling out ;) Thus no ice passing the captube just yet. Plus low restrictive captube, so r1150 next up. Noticed a 2C offset in temps from my PID here to the DT200, and 1.5C offset in temps to my Fluke 51. That is, the PID is reading a bit warmer ;)

Ya know what I love?

Adding that r1150, booting her up, and going from liquid pooling of r290, to white! Snowy days! Snowy days!

Full unloaded right now, but no insulation, and first staying at -35C even after turning on 2nd and no desuperheater, it dropped down to -34.6C then regained slowly. You can hear the liquid, I bet I might have flooded the plate hx ;) Who knows! Ice on first accumulator to the compressor basically, which is something I do very much love.

So here's the ice you want to see...

Oh and about a few seconds after this pic, the 2nd stage accumulator iced.

I wish I had a clue what you were doing.

All I know is that it cools CPU's.

Amazing mate.. I wanna try something like this sometime.

Nice work on the temp controller.

Insulated!

From the side!

Just some temps pre-tuning and such, low side still well and pulling down, you can see the pressures at this point, fairly low, and alot of r290 in there.

Right now second is undercharged I know, still showing about -5 low and 160 high, but holding 250W actually, second stage evap at base is -55.4C, flickering up to -55.2C and down to -55.6C in about a 4 second oscillation. Which is good, I like that. At that load the first is holding in there nicely about -31C. Not bad at all, mostly r290 remember. Second stage is 30psi r290, then the rest r1150, and I think I'm going to add some more r290 first to see how that gives her a hand, keeps the high side discharge down, and load capacity up.

Great stuff though, but ambient was hitting 90F in the workshop, didn't have any windows open, so I'm glad that condenser is helping out.

Again this is without an oil sep or desuperheater. Ya leave her alone and she pulls second down to -88.1C. Very nice :) So some more refrigerant, bring that -88.1C closer to that -55.4C, and woohoo :) The magic ;)
