Friends pc wont boot

He's tried defaulting bios settings and safe mode. Windows loads normally (although hardware profile does come up) then instead of the login screen appearing a blue screen comes up with writing too fast to read, with no escape unless u reboot. This reocurrs!

when starting up press F8 then select "do not restart on something or other" cant remember the exact wording. that should allow you to the bluescreen.

Well it doesnt restart itself, u just have to restart as it stays on the screen iirc

just reinstall windows, and avoid all the fuss of repairing it, makes life easier for everyone....

You could reinstall it but have you tried safe mode first? If anything else it'll allow you to save your files before you format.

if you need to backup files-

if you have a extra harddrive you can use it to install windows and then drag and drop important files to it

then reinstall windows on the other drive and drp the filesback

i have a old 80gb drive i do this with, i keep all my music/pictures on it JIC something happens and i need to put it back on my main rig

before going down the long winded way of backing up data and reinstalling windows, you could try a windows repair.

I always seem to find that repair leaves my installation messed up and in the end it's worth totally reinstalling the OS. We all know how Windows corrupts itself over time

U guyz just had this.

My friend had this last week.

The guy I listen to on radio had 3 of his pcs do it.

(later in the week his girlfriend`s laptop did it)

sam make sure chris's ide cable is pressed in fully as it may of came loose when he trasported it from the lan get him to take it out and place it back makeing sure its properly in

Screwed by Windows updates, by any chance?

I've seen a few PCs where Automatic Updates has D/L'd and installed something that wasn't needed. Happend to mine a while back. Just re-installed the O/S and switched off Auto Updates. I just check the MS site periodically now and choose what I want and need.

It seems strange that an update should corrupt your system, but with a fresh install and no updates surely it should work.

It's true man, I've had updates corrupt my system before, I think it was back when I had a Creative Audigy 2ZS in. Windows Update would detect drivers I apparantly needed and install them only for me to find the PC wouldn't boot the next time I tried and I'd have to use system restore.
