Slow boot with HDD connected after format / Win. Boot Manager

Hello everyone.

I formatted my system for the first time a couple of days ago. I have 2 drives. An SSD (Intel 520 series 120GB ) and an HDD (Caviar Black 1TB ). Pretty basic configuration.
For the install, I had my HDD disconnected and I deleted the two partinions of the SSD that were shown (a 100mb system-partition and the rest). All nice so far? Do you disagree ?

During the first few boots I noticed a deceleration of my boot-up times but I thought "nah, it's just the updates etc". But that thing is permanent. Long story short, when I have my HDD plugged, the time between pressing the power button and getting to the user-login screen is about 24+ seconds. The time for the same procedure with the HDD unplugged is 20-21 seconds.

All that 4-5 seconds difference is concentrated in a specific part of the boot-up. At the point where the black screen with "Starting Windows" and the four orbs starts. HDD-on the orbs make a full flag and it kind of sits there for a sec or two. HDD-off the orbs hardly make a movement of 90-100 degrees (pi/2 rad, or 200ish grad ) and bam! I'm in login screen. At this point I have to point out, that even though I had never tried it HDD-off, the time for this procedure was roughly the same as it is now HDD-off (I think a very tiny bit slower).

My friends at the University today told me "are you serious? You make all that fuss for four seconds??? Mine boots-up on 2 minutes". I tried to explain that it is the principle behind knowing that something is wrong and trying to fix it instead of leaving it there cryshing your brain and tormenting your every thought!!!! (Ok, exaggerate!). And if you think about it, its a 20-25% difference from 20+ to 24+ secongs. Hopefully, i knocked on the right door now smile.gif

And another issue which I don't if and how it relates to the above. After my re-install I noticed for the first time a "Windows Boot Manager" at my boot-priotiry settings. When I tried to make my SSD first device, it didn't boot but instead it showed an "Insert boot media" message or something similar. I remind you that the OS is installed on the SSD and the HDD was unplugged during the install. (Of course I formatted it later).

Thank you all for reading through all of this and please excuse any mistakes on my part.

P.S.: I'm using Windows 7
