Hello again

Well my old buildlog "mITX Watercooled (280mm+240mm rad)" is not suiting anymore, as i won the battle (i managed to build the dream PC, and it looked awesome), but i lost the war (Not fulfilling the goal of a silent mITX machine).

I eventually put shifted to a small ATX case, Fractal Meshify C, but having a windowed ATX case with a mITX board have irritated me since it was finished.

So what to do? Looked at 2700x vs 8700k, but was constantly looking at used PC's on a danish forum. And found a i9 7900x, ASRock X299E-ITX and 32GB 2400MHz i swapped with my ITX parts.

I searched on for a ATX board, and luckily i the forum sold their test sample of the Asus ROG Strix X299-E Gaming for 50% of the new cost. Giant WIN

Then picked up a 400mm Phobya rad with 180mm fans to mount external under the desk. 2 EK quick disconnects, and a monoblock for the board.
Still needed RAM, so picked up 16GB of Corsair Vengeance LPX 3733MHz C17 QC. I'm still not 100% sure i'm keeping the i9, so i need low profile ram, as the Meshify has the normal fractal height restriction when you add a 240mm radiator in the top. And lastly i picked up a new Samsung 970 EVO M.2 500GB, as the watercooling is going to block access to the primary M.2 slot =00=

I'm curious how much of a difference liquid metal will make on a GPU block vs a more traditional paste.

I have used LM from day one, så I have no idea if there is a difference. But at idle it's only a couple of C from the water temp, and under load it's within 10-15c of the water temp iirc. Haven't really thought about it, just that it's under 50c, even with 25+ c in the room

Under 50 is great !


I delidded my 8700K recently and applied LM, Such a massive temp difference, 20'c drop in most cases.

Well build is done

Don't start building, and negotiating on a house at the same time. 2 hole days to finish the build. AND we bought a house

Before i start a bigger update post, first some temps.
The external 400mm radiator is AWESOME.

Pump at static 2000rpm at all times.
On idle:
Fans in the case at 0 rpm, the external rad at 430rpm totally silent and the rad is on the desk about a meter from me.
Room temp 22,2c
Water temp 25,1c
GPU temp 25c
CPU temp 26c

Its insane

Gaming PUBG last night for 1 hour+ (probably 2 hours+)
The internal fans turn on, and run at about 500rpm
Room temp 25,7c
Water temp 34c
GPU temp 43c
CPU temp 46-50c

Right now, after 3 hours + of youtube and surfing
Room temp 26,1c
Water temp 29,3c
GPU temp 30c
CPU temp 31-32c

The GPU are OC'ed, but the cpu is still stock.

2-3C at most if you custom cool and moderate fan speed. Virtually Nothing if you use reference/default cooler

Custom loop with stock paste will net you around 54 at load given a dedicated 240 rad. LM will drop it a few degrees to around 50-52 if you are lucky.

I tested my 980Ti reference cooler and it made 0 difference. Simply because the card had its temp target and kept going till it achieved it.

I'm the same as Korreborg though. I always use LM anyway since I watercool so, removing the block, I might as well replace the TIM too.

Installed CPU, M.2 and RAM in the MB

The LED strip in the monoblock had to be relocated to insure i don't have to disassemble the hole thing to install more RAM.

Started to install the new parts. The PCI slot is one spot lower compared to the ITX boards, so needed to find a new way to install the RES. Only managed to drill 3 holes. But it used to be mounted with zip ties

Well finished and moved to the office

Made the fan profiles, so the internal fans only turn on under load. (But the have been running lots of days in this heat :mellow: )

Well lots of pictures And i'm already in trouble. I have fallen for the PHANTEKS EVOLV X, so i'm thinking about an upgrade when the case comes out. We are moving to a house this november, where i'm getting a lot more space to play, so might get myself a playseat and a wheel

It has gotten better, but far form perfect. But i can't fit them hidden in this case ^_^

I will try to get some night pics without the reflections. They are not as apparent irl

There isn't enough room between the RADs and the glass. But the glass is tempered, so it is really not a big deal

Have pre-ordered the Evolv X, so a rebuild is coming.
Looking at some extra watercooling fittings, to make the loop draining easier, as the Evolv X have drain port. And also to prepare it for hard tubeing in the future.
