Thought I'd post some stuff for those of you who are new to the whole forum/VB thang :)

Check out this Video for a load of excellent tips on how to post on forums on "t3h internets"

The first Big "Do": Read the Forum T&C's

http://forum.overclock3d.net/announcement.php?f=4

Do:

Personal Forum Options

* Go into the UserCP. Under profile there's a few cool things that people like to find out about you, including your PC specs which are very helpful in a forum such as OC3D.

* Check your options. Do you have Default Thread Subscription to subscribe to every thread when you reply to it (and send an e-mail)? This will clog up your inbox.

* Check to see how many posts per page the forum defaults to. I always change this no matter what forum it is.

* Check to see if you have images/signatures enabled...if you're on dial up you may want to turn them off.

* Upload a personal avatar. This is a small image that appears beside every post and is useful to help us recognise who you are.

* Get yourself a signature. This also appears below your posts and is a cool chance to express yourself. Do it!

* Read all the rules and sticky's for each section. This may take time but I guarantee it will save you time when you have a problem and stop you breaking the rules.

* Use a descriptive thread title. Titles such as "please help me omg!!11one!1" do nobody any favours at all. You will get more of a specialised response from those most capable of answering if you choose a suitable title for your problem.

General Do's

* Try to use half-decent language. OK, it's a forum and we're pretty relaxed: but we need to know what you are talking about.

* Be nice to people. Seriously it doesn't take much. We're a relaxed and friendly community but don't expect people to be nice to you if you aren't.

* Say thank-you when people help you. Once again it's not much effort is it?

* Resize your pics to below 1024 x 768. I usually use 800 x 600 or 640 x 480 and link to the big versions if needed

* Use our image upload service. It's free, easy to use and uses the same user id/password as your forum account. It's also 100% quicker than almost every other upload service out there.

URL is: http://upload.overclock3d.net/

* Post pics of your PC in the Rig gallery/Project forum. People love seeing them and you won't fail to get a response from our members, even if it's an ageing PI!

* Use Google before asking stupid questions. Google is your friend and the greatest resource on the web. Use it. This isn't to say if you don't find the answer you can't post it: we'll always try to help.

*Ask before posting affiliate links. We may let you post them but we will delete it if you dont ask.

* If you don't know BB code then use "Post reply" and an advanced menu will come up. This is a great way to learn about tags and [url] tags and suchlike!

[B]Don'ts[/B]

* SPAM our forums with advertising. There's no point and our average response time to SPAM is 4minutes, so no-one will see it...and I'm not even kidding.

* SPAM in a general sense. I mean post one word answers. Try to make every post contribute something.

* Flame people - meaning say nasty personal insults to others.

* Disrespect our members. Like I said: we're a great community and the Mod Team will not stand for idiots spoiling it.

* Disrespect admins/mods. We can and will ban you, so use common sense and don't do it.

* Get easily offended. Forums get very hard to recognise when people make an innocent comment or not so try to be easy-going.

* Abuse others out of the forums. You wouldn't like and and you definitely won't be a member long if you do this.

* Post in 100% shorthand/1337 speak. Some use is fine but use too much and no-one will have a clue what you're on about!

* Post huge images. It's not fair on those with slower connections/smaller screen sizes.

* Post threads asking questions with no information in them. We won't be able to answer PC questions without system spec and more detailed problem info. I don't know of anyone who owns a crystal ball at OC3D!

* Be biased. It's fine if you like one thing or other but slating something just because it's not one make or other is small-minded and causes arguments.

* Post in a language other than English. This is an English speaking forum so please post in English.

* Post images larger than 800 x 600. It's not fair to members who have a slower connection/smaller screen and to be honest makes the thread very hard to read

Think that's it, any more suggestions to put in then let me know

Hope it's useful

I think "biased" would be better.

It`s very fair tbh.

.. and I got to remember to take a number of these issues on board myself. When u do harbor some deep feelings about a subject, u do have to try and stay within this statement purely out of respect to the hosters, yet alone the fellow users. It can be hard, particularly if u veremently (spelling) disagree with a statement.

School report would possibly say "could do better" >.<

Nice set of rules, it should be a mandatory read before you are alowed to make your first post.

(apparently me especially, lol)

Aye, is it possible for this page (and others if needed) to automatically come up when someone joins? It's been a while since I registered to a forum, so I don't exactly remember what you have to go through

Just a *BUMP* after a particularly nasty and rude person decided that they can act like an imbecile on our forums

Please follow the T&C's and the pointers in this post

OC3D is an awesome friendly and very helpful community and we want to keep it this way

Hope its ok with you Matt but added one of my own..

I've been seeing this more and more lately, I think it needs addressing.

Updated sticky with this info:

As it's under the Don't heading I would presume so :p :D

800 x 600 is perfectly acceptable for posting images, and as Kemp said if it doesn't provide enough detail then simply link to the larger ones. We just need to be mindful that not everyone here (guests browsing the site included) may not have a broadband connection.
