Format external for storage?

What should I format my external enclosure (with hdd obviously) with and how would I go about doing it if I only wanted it for storage (non bootable) just detectable.

Thanks :)

Fat32 for more compatability :)

but i'm a linux geek. Either way you can right click it in my computer and hit format.

I think it disables quick remove when formatted in NTFS meaning you should click the "safely remove hardware" or you could loose some data.

I have heard of that issue but my portable HDD is NTFS and has never lost a single file when removed, even during write/read.

Will the drive be removed often?

I'm gonna turn it on before i boot pc if i feel like watching a video, or accessing any files I have stored there (im trying to rid my main boot hdds of large files) so its not going to be used apart for backup and storage.

I have it connected via sata atm, i will use usb for sharing with friends @ lans for example

tis a game of luck i suppose, But i'd prob format it as FAT32

Agreed, I`ve heard the stories of things going wrong but not witnessed it myself. So although I`d probably use ntfs myself, I`d be a little reluctant to advise others.

What`s that thing that nags at u, people maybe not being as friendly with their pcs as u might ?
