Generally you can set VSync at a driver/api level. In nvidia control panel you can force everything using direct3d and opengl to match your display.

Talking for OpenGL here but direct3d wont be far off. Basicly the vendor (nvidia/ati) will implement opengl for their hardware. And the developers use the API.

The game will have a display function that will clear the buffer, render stuff(scene, player ect..) and swap buffers .. which is known as a frame. As a game developer I have no control over how many times the display function will be called.

Hmm my current thoughts... 120 hz monitor (wich monitor i dont know yet) because 120hz would be smoother in gaming, ips panels are more for non action games it seems and just is more for like.. photoshop or something, movies.. imo gaming is fast paced and you need the 120hz and fast framerates for the game to feel smooth.
So judging by the site seumas send, i think i might go sli 670 then. I just compared 670s to 690 and it seems 690 is about the double of a 670, with that logic if SLI litterly doubles fps, it should be around the same as 690 performance wise.
The other reason for sli 670s then is to get ~100fps on highest settings to really feel smooth when gaming and blow the gamers mind basically.
Just my point of view atm.

Acer has a fair priced 120hz panel. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009222 But its not led backlit. If that is an issue for you. You are sorta right about IPS not being for action gaming, but with the catleaps and shimians there is way less response time compared to a Dell or apple cinema. 6ms response time, and very little input lag because theres only a single dvi-d port. Barebones essentially. You would be hard pressed to see a difference between 2ms and 6ms unless you have a million dollar prize on the line in a MLG tourney. The next batch of catleaps will be overclockable to 100hz-120hz. Best of both worlds. 80% more pixels than 1080? Yes please

Guys I've read some good reviews about OCZ V4, I think this is better than crusial M4, I mean sure m4 is "reliable" maybe but ocz seems to be both that and better performance wise.

OCZ SSD's have some of the highest return rates. I would never touch one of their drives let alone buy one

Was this a firmware problem because of these returns? It might have been fixed by now.

Reviews don't take into account long term use.

As for the SSD, I read that M4 has good read speeds but write is around 200mb only? Other have both write and read 500mb~
And this drive has ~40k iops wich some other drives deliver 80k+
I'm not convinced that this M4 everyone keeps recommending me is good in performance.

The speeds that are given are not what windows works in, when it comes to other speeds the M4 is one of the fastest drives you can get

I don't use the SSD for windows only also for games to reduce loading times. And if the specs they give you, and you shouldnt look at it, at what should i look then to determine speed.

Aela, its too soon to judge whether or not the Vertex 4 is "reliable". The vertex 4 uses OCZs in-house indillinx controller, so there will not be any sandforce issues here. It does look like an impressive drive. I would have no problems buying one right now.

Yeah I would honestly take a shot in the dark with the vertex 4. This is coming from a guy that owned an Agility 2 and had to RMA it. Got the replacement, sold it on craigslist then bought the m4. Crucial is my go to ssd manufacturer as of late. Its well known that sandforce drives had issues, but the indillinx acquisition should have remedied their controller issues. But you never know.

I think Vertex has a higher performance BUT I did read that it is less stable than the m4...
Aside from this, should I go with a WD Black Caviar for HDD? I'm looking for performance and not much noise.
