first time custom computer build

Iiyama 23 inch IPS - X2377HDS I think. That's what I have and I find it amazing. There's a 23 inch dell IPS that has good reviews too.
As for the optical drive - do you really need one? If so...

Get the cheapest sata dvd-rw the retailer has to offer /end

An answer to one of your previous queries: The WD Caviar black is not loud at all. The loudest thing in my rig is my 580, which is not very loud even at 100%. The Caviar black cannot be heard over anything else, so it's all good :)

for the optical... yeah well i wont use it much either but i still need one. I can't buy bf3 from steam so i still need to read the cd :). Other than that yeah... i might even put it out of my case after that fro the time being if its possible.
as for monitor i read alot about 120 hz screens being much better for gaming as it smoothens the game more. As ips your capped at 60 so yeah 60 fps max BUT with an ips you have more darker colors so for instance if you play amnesia you'll have better visuals there, also also you'll crap your pants faster in that game :o:owned:

Sounds good so far! Is it reliable and fast? I don't expect it to compare to a m4 but you know for an hdd.

I've had mine for nearly a year with 0 hiccups (touch wood). I have a fair few games installed on mine as well and they load very quickly indeed. I haven't done any tests to compare the speeds with my SSD, but loading times are noticeably faster than "Green" drives.

BF3 uses origin - not disks...
There's more than just Steam around now.

It's up to you then about a monitor. I've never played on 120hz - but mine at 60hz seems perfectly fine and I dont notice anything not being smooth if you get what I mean

Yes i understand but seeing reactions from people who do have a 120hz screens alot of them say yeah, i have one and im not going back 60hz, everything is smoother and better blabla. You know.

Always up untill my first build i had a store bought computers with Inte/nVidia becasue i always though AMD/ATI was crap. My first build i went with 2500k/crossfire 6950's set up. That was little over a year ago. I am now working on my 2nd build which is amd 8150FX/Radeon HD 7970. Both CPU/GPU water cooled. Don't worry man whatever you decide you'll be fine
MATE! Use the 2500k from your other build :)
2500k performs a lot better than the FX8150 :)
OT: pretty much what everyone else says.
The GTX 670 Windforce x3 is an epic card according the reviews. Although the blue PCB might be a deal-killer :p
I don't think the blue PCB is really noticable though

Wait what? cant follow, apparently ill have plenty of fps with 1 670, and wasnt gygabite good? whats the pcb then?

Ok heres what i dont get, I have like 2400£ for a new custom pc wich im pretty sure i can build a beast pc with but you say now keep my cpu ? why ? :p if i remember correctly i got someone recommending me 3500 something
and like gtx 670, why not 680? Its better right? and only 100 more expensive and it has better cooling apparently? or more power efficient and stuff isnt that what a pc needs too ? i wont be going dual or triple screens as a setup i'll always stick to 1 so no need to worry about me going SLI unless i need more fps..

A 680 more power efficient? How does that make sense, if you have a 2500k already upgrading IMO would be a bit silly, also 1 670 is more than enough

670 shall power a single 1920x1080 screen just fine. The reason we advise against buying a 680 is that it offers 5-10% performance increases, if that, for 20-25% more money - it just doesn't seem to be worth it.
And, as for cooling, go for a third party cooler like the KFA2, the MSI PE or the Gigabyte Windforce. Unless you want to water cool, then the cooling capabilities of the card doesn't matter anyway.

I just re-read the OP. You have already purchased a 2500k, lol. I think most of us misread the OP and thought you were in the process of buying all of the parts. I didn't realize that you already have the CPU :/

Just purchase the other parts suggested. So an AX 650/750, GTX 670, 600t, any optical drive (doesn't matter), Crucial M4 and 2TB WD Caviar Black.

Yes i had 2500k in my old computer, the rest im just replacing. alright then the gtx670.. out of curiousoty, how much fps should one get on 1900x... on lets say skyrim or crysis 2, with other options enabled to make graphs better, dx11 everything on.

And yass are you happy with the black caviar? had no problems yet whatsoever?
And for optical drive if it doesnt matter alright though i want it to be able to burn cd's for convenience, read and write and all that stuff doesnt have to be blue ray so what do i look for? remember i use pcpartpicker as site to see lowest prices and stuff.

yeah you can only hope for a new series. imagine intel core i8 lol, 8 core and stuff. ah well time will tell!

Just an idea here but what if i sli 2x gtx670's to get good fps.
Something bothers me i read on a forum yesterday that 2x670s are as good as a 680 or slightly better. 2x 680 is better or equal as a 690 wich is the fastest in the word
