first time custom computer build

Hello im new to this forum and i wanted to ask you guys for help with my new rig as i havent build a computer before.:eek:
I used the site Pcpartpicker.com to help me a bit but i also want the advice of you guys.^_^
Now i only have a few questions here as i dont want to drag this to a 20 page thread, i just want the opinions of you guys and why exactly:)

Now what i have for now is the 2500k processor with noctua dh14 as cooler, 8gb ram, msi gd65 mobo

what i still need is a new power supply, gpu, case, optical drive, ssd and hdd
To be more specific i have already my eye on the corsair 600t black is this a good case for my rig?
also storagewise i was thinking of a reliable 2tb hdd and 2x corsair force gt's 240gb, reason for having 2 of these is because they have 85k iops so i'm guessing they are a bit faster, also cheaper than the 480gb oddly.
What optical drive should i get? on the site i get so many options but i dont get it, there is so much information i dont understand anything about there.
pc will be used primarely for gaming and streaming and editing but nothing too extreme, wich brings me to my last question wich gpu should i need? i play high resolution games like battlefield and metro 2033. also with wich brand should i go with ?
Remember to write why you picked the specific part i would much apreciate it, i wouldnt want to be like this :cussing: :dammit::banghead:when i find out its not good or doesnt fit in my rig etc.

Nice. Instead of the 2500k go for an Ivy Bridge build and grab the 3570k. As for the power supply, it really depends on what graphics card you will go for. The most sensible choice for a graphics card at the moment is either the 670 or the 7950. If you choose either of those cards a 650W PSU would be more than sufficient (Something like a BeQuiet P9 650W or the AX 650).

As for a case, it's really up to you which one you go for. The 600t is a very good looking case and cooling wise it is pretty good as well.

Most here would recommend the Crucial M4 as it is known to be one of the, if not the most reliable SSD out right now. Intel, Kingston, Samsung and Corsair have very good SSD's as well though. For the Hard-drive I would recommend the WD Caviar Black. It really is quite quick for a mechanical drive and it is not noisy at all. What will you be doing with 2 240GB drives? Are you thinking Raid 0? If you are, it is not really recommended as you lose some essential features. If you just want to use one for OS and one for programs/games than that is fine :)

How many screens are you using?

I'd say 3570k, D14, same motherboard and RAM as you've listed, AX650, 128/256gb crucial m4, then a 1TB WD Green. Case of your choice really, and the 600T is good
As for the Graphics card, if you're only gaming on 1 screen, there's no point in going for 670 SLI as 1 will max out the FPS. If you are gaming on 3 screens, then yeh go for 670 SLI - and then I'd advise an AX750.

@Andrew - Are you really recommending someone a custom loop for their first computer build...?

Yes 2400 is overkill i know, i dont want to spend it all at once either. its just my spare cash just in case i really need it for this pc.
what would i spend on a case? well as long as its awesome looking and offers good performance and cooling im happy, dont look at price.
as for the gpu sli? you sure? I only use 1 monitor, but i'm going to buy another one because im not happy with mine. I'm going either 1900x... or 2560x...
For gaming and stuff i think 120 hz is best though.
 
You'd be better going for a 60hz IPS IMO. 2560x1400 doesnt really make the game much better, and will only dumb down frame rates and increase cost - so you're better going with 1080p.
Should only really be buying the 120hz if you want it for 3d as the quality of the monitors are not as good as the 60hz screens, and you cant really tell the difference over 60hz (some people think you can but I'm pretty sure that's just placebo effects)

Hmm alrighty as for gpu im more of a fan of geforce's so.. think i might go with 670, how about 680 though how is that?

So for SSD you recommend me a crusial m4? Hmm.. last time i checked it had a low write speed or read (1 of the 2 was 200ish) and the one i had selected has both of those 500+, not to mention it has 85k IOPS, i dont know about crusial. And yes i use the ssd for my os so everything is faster, faster boots and stuff, will also store games on it so that speeds up a bit too. HDD will be more for my movies and music and stuff. About that raid 0 i'm not sure what your talking about there, then again im pretty new to this so forgive me!
And why 2x 240? its cheaper than a 480 and the 480gb has 50ish K IOPS so i figure why not go 240x2 with higher iops and its even cheaper!

EDIT: Ah damnit it.. About hdd so you recommend me WD caviar black hmm.. alright but does it have low failure rates? Is it fast with low sound? I read some good things about samsung spinpoint f4 too.

+1 - good build, only thing I'd change would be the graphics card to get a non-reference quieter cooler such as the gigabyte windforce or kfa2 or ASUS DCII.

The listed write speeds are the max speeds at 1024k data rates. Windows only actually can work with 4k and 8k data - at which the Crucial is actually one of the fastest SSDs there is. Either get the M4, Samsung 830 or Intel 520 - cant go wrong with any, so whatever is the cheapest or on offer
 
Stick with the 670, don't bother with the 680.

The 600t is a very popular case and if you find that the cooling is not up to par, you can always change the fans.

He has £2400, so he doesn't really need to save a bit of money by going for a green drive. The difference is not massive in terms of price tbh.

Hmm ok... so you suggest a gigabyte windforce gtx 670
just out of curiousoty how much better is the 680 vs the 670?
since everyone is recommending me 670 there should be something bad about 680 then. also 2gb or 4gb?
 
Nothing bad about the 680 - just everything good about the 670 :)
The 680 is about 5% better at the most, and so it isnt really worth spending the extra money.
And 2gb - the 4gb version only helps when using silly numbers of screens

And your sure corsair force gt isnt a better option?
I dont mind the small price difference, if its faster i might buy it :)

You just don't wanna be using a sand-force drive mate, they are terrible. Please get the samsung 830 or m4.

Greens will be quieter if not near silent, but there is a performance difference between the green and black. WD are the best hdds for reliability.
