First Time Build

Hey All,

I'm about to start my first PC build in quite some time and I need some help. I will be using this PC mostly for gaming with a budget of $1200US. I will be buying all my parts during the Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales to get the best deals, here is the parts i'm thinking about:

Intel Core i7-3770K 3.5GHz Quad-Core
MSI Z77A-GD65 Gaming ATX LGA1155
G.Skill Sniper Series 8GB 2 x 4GB DDR3-1866
Kingston SSDNow V300 Series 120GB 2.5" SSD
Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM
Asus GeForce GTX 770 2GB
Case Corsair 750D ATX Full Tower
Corsair 750W ATX12V
LG GH24NS95 DVD/CD Writer
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) (64-bit)

Here are some of the things I will be doing or am concerned about:
1. I do plan on getting a H100 and overclocking later.
2. I want to SLI in the future when my GPU starts to show it age but the motherboard only supports 8x and 8x in SLI. That doesn't sound like I will get much of a performance boost so can someone recommend a better one.
3. I want to play games at 1080p at maxed settings. I also want to know if I can go to a multiple monitor setup in the future, if I need a GPU with more ram.
4. Let me know if the processor is overkill, I was thinking games in the future would use more cores but if not I will get a 4670k.
5. I already have a monitor and I will probably get a cheaper mouse and keyboard for now until I can afford better ones later.
6. I will need a wireless card as well because a wired connection is not an option right now and I have no idea witch one to get.

Any advice/recommendations will be a great help, none of these parts are set so anything can be changed. I just want to be sure i'm getting the best parts I can for the best performance. This will be a lot of money spent for me so I want to get it right the first time. Thanks in advance for the help.

Here are a few suggestions on the thought out build..
Assuming you are in the US(because you said $) then i would make these changes.

Go for a I5 4670k CPU over a 3770k. For gaming you won't need hyperthreading. You could also go along the AMD 8320 route and take advantage of games using quad/octa cores.

For the 4670k grab a MSI z87 GD65. For the 8320 grab a MSI 990FX GD80 or Gigabyte 990FX UD5.

Go for a faster ssd. That kingston one is not exactly that fast. I would recommend a Kingston HyperX 3k 120gb/Cosair GTX Neutron 120gb/ Samsung 840 Pro 128gb. Any will do.

Grab an AMD 7970 Ghz or R9 280x. Both are cheaper than a 770 and faster while overclocking much more.

PSU is fine..

For an OS go on ebay and find an Ultimate Edition Retail version 64bit. I have gotten 2 of those on 2 different occasions for cheaper or as cheap as OEM Home premium.

Now on your list.
1. H100i is far better than a h100 due to better fans an slight improvement on design.
2. The GPU's i recommended will last a long time. Keep in mind 1 powerful GPU is better than 2 less powerful ones even if they are faster: will run cooler, quieter, last longer, hold resale value more, and can be Xfired or SLI if you please.
3. 3gb of Vram is starting to become needed due to games running 64bit instead of 32bit(about damn time too).
4. I already addressed the CPU part previously:)
5. Mine as well save up and not spend more money now just to spend more later.
6. Depending on your network and set up is what we can recommend. As of right now I am using a TP-link N600 Wireless usb adapter, works well. Though many will advise using homeplugs instead(basically a wired connection through the use of outlets).

I skipped the case now that i realize...

I would go for something smaller and cheaper than a 750d. That case is a waste of money if you are using a h100i. Go for something like a Fractal Design Arc Midi R2.

Just ask if you have more questions:)
