First Time Build (Gaming)

Cheers, I have been looking up reviews for the Asus 7950, is it possible to crossfire it (in the future possible) as its quite a fat card. On its own though its quite tempting

I believe so yes

Not a bad deal, could just sell them for £20 each and make £60 back off the price you pay for the card

Thank you, I've seen scan bundle those same games with cards aswell. I think i just need to choose between XFX and Asus as they are very similar specs. I'm not sure I like the size of the Asus but it does apparently cool better.

Also the reviews I've been reading say the XFX DD has better build quality. Unforuntatley Sapphire's 7950 dosen't go with my colour scheme (first world problems much) , i'll just have to read more reviews but it think i'll go for a 7950 of some sort!

I was thinking of getting 2 x 120GB Corsair Force SSDs instead of the one 240GB SSD. Has anyone had experience with this? Is it easy to put in RAID 0 or should i use TRIM ? And would I need to get RAID controller if so which one.

No need for a raid card i would always go with the one ssd with trim but there are a lot of people that would say go with a raid 0 set up (speed) but that would have to be up to you

I attempted 4 way raid with an AM3/ SB850 (Crosshair IV) board and it just wouldn't work no matter what. I don't know if these boards will be any different but my advice is to get a cheap RAID card just in case the onboard gives you hassle.

According to Asus's Website the Sabertooth Z77 supports RAID 0. I understand RAID and how it works but what are the benefits of trim ?

Trim is a bit like having a maid looking after the ssd and also stops the ssd from filling up to fast were as garbage collection only happens when the system is idle (weekly collection lol)

So would trim work with RAID 0 if i got 2 ssd or would 1 ssd be better for this?

Also are there any motherboards which would perform better than the Sabertooth with the 3770K for around £180?

Nah, this is where although the question seems straight forward. The answer isn't necessarily so.

£1500, Gaming computer..... bang for buck on the graphics...

Just doesn't work for me I'm afraid.

What I meant was, with the above qualifiers, I goto a shop and select in this order, more or less:

Now I wouldn't necessarily buy these exact items, this is just an example, and I've done it when I'm meant to be working - so quickly, but to me spending £1500 for a gaming computer doesn't show me the client is going bang for buck, imo that is. I mean you may well have the intention to, but I'd not think it necessary.

You'll notice I've merely duplicated a bunch of your items from the OP in some cases. In my mind, spending £120+ on a case and settle for not the best gfxcard is crazy talk.

Granted, I've spent all your cash and a few additional pints.

I too am suppose to be working. Would that card be able to run triple monitors Well or would i need to get another one? The case is not set in stone, I just hear great things about it as an air cooling case.

At the moment this is all a hypothetical build with a budget of £1500, I'm open to both Intel and AMD (although I have never used AMD I was under the impression intel is better) as well as Nvidea and AMD as im not really a fan boy of either. This is why I came here as although I'm not clueless about computer parts there is still alot I don't know especially with graphics cards, i know not to chase high GB just because. But what kind of GB would be require to run triple monitor well (im not even 100% sure I want triple monitor as I can imagine the bezel would annoy me as well as the cost factor of 3 monitors)

This is where the forum comes in handy, cos it's often the case you can start off with one idea and pandoras box gets split wide open once people mention things.

The triple screen idea is really yours alone to make. Personally, I'd prefer the biggest single screen I can afford - but again if the client wants it, you have to comply. It's an important factor tho.

The jury is out on GB for resolutions. But spending other peoples money, I'd cover the bases and go 4G for triple screens, or even a huge single screen.

(if it were my own purchase, I'd be happy with 2G max right now, but this isn't my purchase)
