First ever build

Hey all

Ive recently decided that I would like to build my first PC in my spare time and thats how I found my way here.

The main thing the PC will be used for is running Catia and gaming

I was thinking of a budget of around £1200

If anyone could suggest of what kinds of hardware I should be looking at that would be great, as Im new to this and there's just so much out there.

well can you reuse some parts like monitor? keyboard hdds etc.? that would help.

if so then get a 2600k based rig with gtx 670

Got a monitor and keyboard and mouse.

Ill be buying everything else though

Oh and in case anyone was wondering

Catia is made by the same people who make solid works. Its just much more powerful and can do a whole lot more with all the work benches that are built into it.

Well if you're going to be using that you might want to look into getting an Nvidia Quadro or ATI FirePro... These cards are meant to render professional graphics with more polygons without the emphasis on high frame rates... They don't work as well for games but unless you want to run everything on ultra, you shouldn't see much of a difference.

Edit: If you ever call tech support for 3DS products 90% of the time if you don't have a "professional" graphics card they will blame the problem on the card... Its a pane in the arse...

Yeah I think the Quadros are sooooo overpriced... When I made the parts list for our rendering computer my boss just about passed out with the graphics cards and ram... We did get 10 of them tho...

Well when I say im going to be using Catia on this machine it will only be for personal projects (currently half way through designing my first bike frame) so I doubt ill need a card that high spec.

Whatever I end up with its got to be better than the laptop Im using at the moment

Right, so Ive been giving it some thought and this is the first list Ive come up with

If anyone sees something wrong please tell me

Like I said this is my first build and im not 100% sure what im doing lol

Ive used novatech as there my local store but once i get a solid list together ill start hunting around for the best prices

Just to give you a heads up, if you end up making your radiator have a push/pull setup and want to put the top fans in that space under the pop out grill at the top of the case, it might not close all the way...

Don't forget to include your OS in your budget, I've built a computer for someone, forgot to put the OS in the price and was out $100 XD

Looks great mate! I would go for a 3770k with a sabertooth Z77 if your budget allows it though. But if not, the 3820 is still a great choice!
