I started my first build last night am as i am new to the whole building your own computer i've hit a brick wall and need some help

I am using a HAF X Case NH-D14 i7 2600k with a Gigabyte z68 UD3 Mobo and a Mushkin Joule 800w PSU and a GTX 560ti and a Lite On DVD Drive

My problem is I have connected it all up using the manuals and with a lot of swearing I have the D-14 working the fan on the 560ti works the Phase LED lights all work it powers on the disk drive pops out but when I have connected a HDMI cable to my mobo and connected it to my LCD monitor I keep getting no signal now the monitor works for HDMI because I have my Xbox connected up using it.

What could I be missing??

I'm assuming you've tried a normal DVI or VGA cable as well to see if it's an issue with the HDMI-out from your pc, so another possibility is the RAM could need reseating if it's not getting to POST, that's a pretty common issue. Keep us posted dude.

I noticed you said hooked hdmi to mobo so I'm thinking ur hooked to the igpu port on the board??? if thats the case try hooking it to the gpu instead and see what that does, If hooked to card then as said might be a bad hdmi out on gpu.

Just tried the card and we have life I am now just connecting the rest of the little cables as i have no led lights on the front.

Sorted that out but hit another issue when i switch the computer on it say disk boot failure inset system disk and press enter i have tried inserting the disk that came with the mobo and a copy of win 7 but nothing should i try setting the boot order via the bios to boot from the cd rom

tried that and nothing i leave the disk in the drive and switch the pc on and still nothing i am using a Kingston 128gb SSD

yes make shure you have it to boot to dvd rom in the bios so you can install windows

It shouldn't matter in theory. The mobo should detect the drive and boot from it if you selected it.

Did you pick it from the "One-time boot menu" or set it manually in the BIOS list?

When setting up a mates PC his mobo refused to acknowledge the drive from the one-time menu so I had to force it in the BIOS.

Am stuck I have been doing research on this problem seems a few issues but everything I have bought it brand new most of it delivered yesterday

the one thing jumping out at me is the SSD is the slave not the master in the BIOS but i don't know how to change it the dvd drive powers on i have changed the boot priority to cd rom for 1st,2nd and 3rd order still nothing how do i check if the boot drive it being recognised??

further to the salve/master problem i don't know what it means

How do I manually set it in the BIOS and that sound familiar I go into the BIOS & select Cd rom and get the same disk boot failure message.

When the PC posts it should give a list of connected SATA devices, though tbh if you can see the name of the drive in the BIOS that should mean its there anyway.

I wouldn't worry about the Slave/Master issue.

Try putting the HDD back to primary and not have the CD in the drive. When prompted to "insert bootable media and press enter" do so with the install disk, could just be being temperamental possibly.

I'll keep looking for possibilities matey.

It sounds like you might have already, but if not, press "Delete" when the PC is first booting and going to POST, that'll bring up the BIOS. If you're lucky there'll be a nice menu option at the top for booting.

In there there should be an option for changing boot order where it will list connected devices. You can then move them around in that menu.

Cheers for the advice so far

I can only see the Kingston SSD no dvd rom drive and I don't even get to insert bootable media I have tried connecting the SSD and DVD Drive up using 2 different sata power cables do it matter were on the mobo they are connected and just entered the bios and it only shows the ssd 4 slots down as slave no dvd rom drive is showing should it be??

I'm using a gigabyte z68 ud3 so i pressed tab to go to post and it shows the kingston ssd but then it shows ide master none and slave none and have been in the bios and changed the boot order i have told it to boot from the cd rom for 1st 2nd and 3rd priority.

I'll try that but am running out of things to try lol.

if you are not seeing the dvd drive in bios try pluging it in another port or it could just be a problem with that dvd drive

Yes it should be shown.Plug ssd in sata port1, dvd drive in sata port2.Let it boot past bios, without anything.Insert media and reboot(ctrl+alt+del)

Can you see in the BIOS what "mode" the sata channels are in? There might be three options for IDE, RAID and AHCI. Try setting them to AHCI and see if you get any difference.
