Oki didnt wanna spam the forums I just bought a pair of xfx 6850s and a

Corsair Graphite 600T for such a cheap price from a mate whos upgrading his system any way I was wondering if a i5 2500k would be fine, found one for only £53 as it was a display model for shop display no box or cpu fan never used.

Iv google and asked on other forums but never found a proper answer mostly folk just being idiots

Now Ill start with the basic what Im looking for In a pc

Basic computing nothing to extreme, convert the odd film for my ipod or convert music in itunes both I can do on my netbook intel 455 but takes for ever, I use gimp for pic editing and sony vegas for basic vids for youtube.

Gaming

dawn of war, star craft 2, command and conquer series and minecraft for when the brother in law is staying over, diablo, no shooters or racing games I have a console for that and Onlive service.

Budget= skys the limit but truthfully a i7 and a £300 graphics card would be a waste on me

Stuff I already own= 60gb ssd ocz vertex plus,

windows vista 64bit home premium (bought years ago never used still in sealed box)

24 inch pc monitor full hd dvi/vga

Just a small note I use linux as mentioned before, ati, nvidia all work with linux ati is now slightly ahead with linux support even crossfire and sli work in linux.

1 thing I will mentioned Im really fussy with pc cases I viewed the antek 100 and 300 cases and the side panels are like tin foil I hate cases with side panels that flex..got to the point thinking of a open design case or buying a sugo sg02 flipping the psu so it faces away from the psu and leaving the panels off it.

For something like this I would be tempted to build a nice little itx gaming cube in say a Silverstone SG06.

Also had an idea of a lian li q07 with a zotac z68 since it has a built in gt430 with a i5...unsure how the gt430 would handle playing the games I play...truthfully the most demanding game is prob starcraft 2/minecraft...I dont care about full hd or every thing turned high just as long as I can play a game with out lag

A quick google search gave me this video:

Seems to play fine without lag.

But beware if you do get that board you will be limited in cooler options due to that massive heatsink for the GPU.

Yea true never thought about the cpu cooler hmm....*thinks*

I love the q07 very minimal will fit my ssd and moduler psu plus Iv notice its getting really cheap in the uk...

Also looked at the llano chipset A8 +mobo but due to corrent prices I could get a intel itx h67 and a i5 2300 for only £40 more

I would buy an Asus board over the Zotac. They just seem to be better quality, but if you want to overclock with a K series chip on an itx board the Zotac is the only gig in town.

Well if you're not planning to be overclocking, you can start with a basic H61/H67 boards from either Asus, Gigabyte, or MSI. I'd probably go for an i3 2100 for the CPU. A pair of quality, but inexpensive memory kit would be nice: Mushkin Silverline Stiletto 8GB kit. For the video card, something in the lines of a GTX 550/560/Ti versions or an AMD HD6850 will fit nicely.

You may find some of the Fractal Design cases to your liking as well. If you're on a tight budget, you may take a look at the Fractal Core 3000. Fractal cases have always been solidly constructed. I would also suggest the Fracal R3 for its quiet performance and simplicity.

PSU, anything above 650W will be overboard so I'd suggest anything within the 500 - 650W max. It'll be more than enough to keep everything running calm and quietly. Corsair, Seasonic, Coolermaster, be quiet!, Enermax have a selection of power supplies you may look into.

That's not a bad motherboard. That could also be a possibility for you as well. I'd definitely get the Gene-Z for the great deal.

Here are some others that may come to consideration:

If you have x2 6850s in XFire, there won't be space for a sound card if you're planning for a sound card as well.
