Well...it took long enough! I`ve had the card for a week or 2 but had trouble sourcing cheap RAM but got it sorted so.... here we go!!

First of all, I couldnt get XP on the Spinpoint to see the I-RAM although it showed up fine in BIOS. The only way I could get it to be seen was to install XP Pro on it. I tried formatting through the XP installation screen in BIOS then restarting the computer but it kept blue-screening.

First performance number: From entering my XP code to dropping into the desktop (including entering my name and restarting when installation was complete) the time it took was....3 minutes 35 seconds. eh? You gotta be kidding right?

Next up was a reboot after changes some settings. The scrooling blue bar didnt appear!!! From "restart" to back into desktop in less than 10 seconds!

Continued...

Next up: HD Tach. This is an old pic, but things aint changed so decided not to upload again.

Check the access time- 0.00ms. The access time is in the order of nanoseconds, so HD Tach cant actually measure to enough decmal places. ARGH! Insane! Thats it compared to my Spinpoint with SATAII interface and NCQ. Mavs burst speed with Raptors beat this, but we`ll see what effect that has soon...

Next up: PCMark05- keep in mind I`m using a lowly single-core at 2.9GHz (old Opto 144) and no SLI.

7365! I`m not really into PCMark yet, but I get the feeling that aint bad! ;)

Next: The not so great bits:

I couldnt run CustomPC on it- I got source errors in tests 1 and 3. I`m gonna work on that, but i`m not sure what I can try.

Next, the most obvious thing: Its only 4GB. As a main disk, its not sensible. its like having a Ferrari in a speedbump zone. Having said that, whatever files ya get on it, they`ll load FAST.

Kenny

EDIT: That PCMark05 score puts me top 40 on the leaderboard- do not many people use it?

kenny where did you by the i ram i have been after one ?

how much did you fork out just googled and got £272.60 Including VAT

thats fast on load and disc use but it did seem slow on file compresion and outhers so did this use your spin point for the file compresion and virus scan or was this bench test useing the I RAM, but like i said it looks very very fast.

The Spinpoint may have been involved coz I had to plug it back in to install PCMark- I just fired and forgot. didnt expect ANYTHING like that.

BazX...ya got incoming PM

will be intrested if you can bench again just with the I RAM Mate, with these sort of benches this will knock the compertition to bits.

Now I got the stuff on the I-RAM, I might try it again

Maybe using my new CPU and see if I can do better ;)

Wow nice one Kenny on getting one. Looks pretty impressive although I'm not sure its worth the price just yet (for everyday use etc).

pm me where also please!

I think i'll run my OS on it, but for safety all my files (including my documents) will be stored elsewhere..

lol kenny has a lot of PMs to do :P Anyway .. real nice results :) i can see memory chips being hard drives of the future... it only make sense to do so.

I`m glad I had it imported

P.S. Sorry Baz- I didnt edit your post I hit "edit" instead of "quote", backed out but it came up as "edited" anyway

This could be a fun thing to have in Kool160 when I get money!!

Cheers
