Hey All,

I am finally getting round to upgrading at the middle of this month once Timmy practically buys my whole pc :eek:

Anyway here is the setup I am looking at going for but not 100% on the memory yet:

CPU - http://www.microdirect.co.uk/(16265)Intel-CPU-Core-2-Duo-E4300-18GHz-800FSB-LGA775.aspx

Motherboard - http://www.microdirect.co.uk/(15285)Asus-P5B-Deluxe-965-Socket-775-Motherboard.aspx

Memory - http://www.microdirect.co.uk/(16746)OCZ-Platinum-Series-2GB-DDR2-PC6400-800MHz.aspx

or http://www.microdirect.co.uk/(14777)Geil-Ultra-DDR2-20GB-PC6400-Dual-Channel.aspx

Suggestions please :cool:

Thanks, Sam

Timmy has buggered off to america for those who don't know...

Sam showed me these last night and i pointed out the OCZ plat. Thing i wasn't too sure on mas the p5b-d and its bios dying issues? As long as he dosn't alter the board it should be ok to rma right?

And if you do want to save some moeny, but don't mind waving good by to the warrenty then the P5N-E SLI + an active NB cooler + the Vdroop pencil mod is proving a grand sucsess here:D

Good luck on the upgrade Hyper!

My new gear is coming tomorrow, can't wait! :D

It seems everyone is finally moving to Core 2 duo! ;)

Looks all good to me Hyper. I am close to choosing the same upgrade path too tbh. As soon as I see more dual core support in games I will take the jump and make my pc work as well as possible to sell...

Think Hyper`s thinking along the lines of Ham`s rig and clocking holy-hell out of the E4300.

Can`t argue too much with the results myself.

Well I can get the E4300 above for £90 or the E6300 for £92, which one is better?

I am keeping my Sapphire X1900XTX graphics card for the minute until I can afford to upgrade.

Go for the e6300.

I has a higher FSB of 1066mhz.. and the e4300 has 800mhz. :)

Sheesh, the E6300 £92 ? I don`t understand how the prices are so close.

Does it matter? We get bargins then! ;)

But I guess only if you look into the deep specs you find the difference.

Hyper.. GO FOR IT! e6300 pwns a e4300! And for a £2 difference whats it just begging you to buy!

There i disagree sir. The e4300 can easily be modded for a 266stock fsb, giving you 266x9. the same speed as a e6600 with a simple stroke of a pencil. even after that it is one of the best overclocking CPUs about. I mean just look at the wr database, in terms of % overclock, the 6300 reached 130% on DIce and the e4300 reached 150% on a SS.

When it comes too chosing between Hyper, it probably really wont matter which one you go for.

Yeah I have w00t w00t. Nice and sunny, been starbucks already tbh. Gonna get some pancakes 2morow morning :)

Your systems looking good :) but if you get the e6300 don't you have to get some PC2-8500 or higher ram like?:

Hope "my" PC is still going strong lol. Got something to look forward to when I get back :)

Hey hey hey.... You're not supposed to come to America and not tell any of us Americans :p

What part of the country?

I would describe America more of a continent comparing it to the size of our (EU) countries :p

I gotta come to America sometime! To the E3 convention or something :p

Nope :) (only 5300 or higher)

The e4300's seem to overclock quite well because they have a low FSB to start with (and a higher multi). Look at Ham's :)

You lose the intelVT thing, but if you don't use VMWare etc it doesn't matter.

e6300 = 266x7

e4300 = 200x9

I guess it depends on how much you want to overclock but if you got both to 6400 DDR2 RAM speeds (1:1)

e6300 = 400x7 (2.8Ghz)

e4300 = 400x9 (3.6Ghz)

Not sure if it's possible for the e4300's to get to that sort of FSB without any problems or not on air tho? :)

Also I have seen people running the e6300's on 500 (3.5Ghz) using P5B's etc (slower bootstrap?) :) not sure if this was 24/7 tho.
