Faulty motherboard?

Right I've got this issue with my pc where I cant successfully install windows 7, it will usually complete the installation but on the final reboot when it checks the registry it will then reboot constantly sometimes it wont even get to this stage.

If I Leave it for a few hours it will eventually get to a stage where it is sick of rebooting then for some reason it will install windows but from then on it's just a ball Ache, I am unable to install windows updates if I even attempt to install them I basically go back to square one and I'll be stuck in a loop

The only real thing I can put it to is either a defective motherboard or maybe CPU but I'm not sure any more

Here are some of solutions that I gave a go and failed.

Purchased a SSD Still wouldn't install windows

Different DVD/CD Drive tried both ide / sata

Updated Bios to F15

Tried Installing Windows using the same SSD and DVD Drive and Disk in another PC this worked fine

Open to suggestions! Sorry if in the wrong topic!

1TB Storage drive

OCZ Agility 3 60gb

You didn't mention trying a different disk entirely, maybe its damaged somehow, or is missing like x amount of % of the actual file on the disc, just an idea.

my bad but it's not the disk because the same SSD same windows disk installs + works fine on a different pc,

also i forgot to mention in my main post It takes Forever to install compared to when i put my ssd and try to install windows on another pc.

Id say its either the mobo(hdd drivers?) or the installation disc

i know this is an obvious one, but did you set the disk drives to AHCI in the bios before installing the os and also activate trim support?

it'll install fine achi ide or raid the achi and trim issues are normally post install.

have you tried a different controller on your mobo??? inel vs marvell or whichever secondary sat ports your board carries??? have you tried different sata cables?? but does sound to me like a bad mobo if it installs fine with a different controller then send it back.

I know it sounds daft, but overclock it, lol

I had exactly the same issues and overclocking it sorted the problems out. To be honest I think what sorted it was upping the RAM voltage all the way to 1.65.

Have you tried installing on a standard HDD?

I had a similar issue to this on a Gigabyte EX58 Extreme motherboard.

When I managed to get windows to install it would loose certain drives connected to certain sata ports.

I replaced the board and kept the Gigabyte for a emergency back up, because I knew it worked fine with only 1 drive connected to a certain sata port.

Eventually I had to RMA the board, and Gigabyte told me that one of the sata controllers had died and they repaired it and sent it back, 3 months later the board was faulty again and it had the same problem.

To me it sound's like you have a faulty Sata controller chip, easiest way to find out would be to use a PCI sata controller card just a cheap one and see what happens with that.

Erm... I recently had similar issue with an Abit AV8 3rd Eye RocketBoy w/ AMD x2 3800+. I put it down to the VIA chipset/sata1 not being happy.

... I gave up in the end and put XP on it lol.
