Faulty DIMM

After having my PC shut down again, I tried running Memtest86+ to see if it was my RAM.

As it turns out... it was. One stick turned up several hundred thousand errors.

I have 16Gb (4X4) Corsair Vengeance Dual Channel memory. One stick is dead... am I able to buy a single new stick of 4Gb and replace the dead stick, or do I have to buy two new sticks of dual channel memory?

Also, what is the difference between four sticks of dual channel and four sticks of quad channel memory?
