Fans Or Rad Change?

With 6 of these fans in push/pull

http://www.scan.co.uk/products/120mm-scythe-kaze-jyuni-1900rpm-slip-stream-fan-sy1225sl12sh

Now all the fans run at 12v and are quite loud, but I am looking at making my pc quieter when I change the case to the new Coolermaster Cosmos case.

I am thinking of getting some Silverstone Air Penetrator fans for push/pull but not to sure.

I have always been told that the CFM is the most important factor but, after seeing TTL's review of the Noctua fans I am not so sure now as to if that's the case or not.

I don't want to use the Noctua fans though as I don't like the colour of them.

Looking for some black fans that will be quiet but give almost the same result's as I am getting now.

My other option is to get the Silverstone TJ11 case and change my rad to the RX480 with a set of quiet fans instead.

Basically I have my cpu on it's own loop and I am looking to get 2 new graphic's card's over the next few months and have them on there own loops as well.

Would like some advice please

I want my pc to be quiet but offer good cooling.

Static pressure is the most important thing for rads, not CFM.

CFM is the amount of air a fan can move, static pressure is the amount of force it pushes the air.

So the higher the static pressure, the stronger the air is blown from the fan.

With radiators the fins on the radiator cause restriction on the air flow and without a fans with a high static pressure the air isn't being pushed through the rad as good as it can be.

The best fans for radiators are Scythe Gental typhoons 1850rpm, they are loud on full blast but when turned down they are quiet and because they have such a high static pressure they are still able to push the air through the rad. Other good fans with a high static pressure are Akasa venom Vipers, Akasa Apaches and Cougar Vortex PWM version.

The Noctua fans are good and if you can afford them they would be a good choice but you will sacrifice a few c*, but as long as your temps are good and your fans are quiet losing a few c* doesn't matter. People obsess too much over getting the lowest temps they can, but as long as your temps are low and your rig is quiet, that is all that should matter, in my opinion anyway.

As for push pull, to me, it's not worth the extra money just to lose 2-3 c* extra, plus more fans also means more noise.

Thanks for the reply.

What I will do is check what the temps are like on just a single set of fans as I know they are quiet with just one set.

If they are quiet enough and the temps are still good then I will be happy but I will look at lower speed fans and pressure and see how they go.

Go for Gentle Typhoons mate, they are really good fans. I'm using 9 of them and I have to say that after taking them down to about 40% they still moving a lot of air, but they are very quiet. The noctua one are really good as well, but ...................COLOR is the only one thing why I dont have them in my current build. So go for GT 1850.

Thanks for the responces.

Just been looking at Specialtech and found 3 fans that I am thinking about now.

I could possibly paint the outer casing of the Noctua fans so I have included them in the list.

Noctua

Alpenfohn

Xigmatek

I don't mind buying 6 of either to run them in push/pull as I would rather gain a temp drop, to be honest I have been told I am quite anal about temps by my dad but I don't know why he complains as he get's free upgrades when I upgrade, and that includes water cooling kit.

Out of the 3 above I would go for the Noctua Focus Flow fans, they are great fans, very quiet and would perform the best out of the 3 given above.

If I was buying fans for a radiator I would probably be looking at the Noctua fans myself.

Well I have switched my fans from 12v to 5v and the temp's are basically the same as before and it's allot quieter, can now actually hear the water in the res bubbling around
ohmy.gif
didn't think the pump was shifting the water that quick but it seems it is.

Max temp's after 1 hour on prime was 52c, 55c, 62c, 60c not bad for 4.8ghz using 1.416v.

The RX rad is designed for Low RPM fans, it has a low FPI count. If your now happy with your temps, not sure if you weren't before, just stick with what you've got. Those new Noctuas look good, however at nearly £20 a fan stuff that lol. Also, as the RX is Low FPI static pressure I think becomes less important, its when you have High FPI you want good static pressure to push the air through.

I run Yate Loons at 1100RPM on my RX360 and see 10C delta t under gaming load running i7 930 @ 4.2Ghz and two 6950's in Crossfire. Those fans cost me around £5 each, approx 75% cheaper than the new Noctua's.

Just my opinion but I could never spend that much just on fans, push pull will set you back around £100-120 which I feel is just nuts lol
