Fans - 120mm

Guys I'm looking for some advice here. What, in your opinions are good low noise, low/medium cfm fans? I have been using SilenX and Panaflo in my builds but I'm wondering if there is an alternative. I dont mind if I have to run them off a fan controller either.

for low noise + decent airflow I like vantec stealth or coolermaster blue led fans (they may be cheap but they push loads of air and are inaudable imo)... 7v delta tri-blades are damn quiet too :D

Phil - if shiny LED's are not your thing the Thermaltake TT12025A-1B1S are a good choice, cost effective, quiet, controllable, with hi flow.

Specs are:

12v 4 pin molex or 3 pin connections

6v start voltage

0.45a max 0.38a typical

5.4w max

2000rpm

static pressure 2.97mm H2O

78cfm max flow

34dB(A)

Ball bearing design with 30000hrs life at max speed

The aerocool Turbines are meant to be pretty good- 16 blade efforts with chrome. They look great as well!

The akasa Amber series is quiet....dunno about airflow though

The Thermaltake Thunderblades are pretty noisy but shift a reasonable amount of air.

2p...just for you :)

Oh and the Evercool ones I used to use on my wetandchillychips (RIP) wastercooling are pretty impressive - used to be able to get them for a frickin steal!!

I would definitely like to give one of them a test.

My current favourite are the NEW SilenX fellas:

Hopefully I will be running an article on every half decent fan soon that I can get my hands on. It will include my own dB reading along with CFM, RPM as a guide. I will also record how the resistance of the new PA series of radiator effects each fan. It should be interesting, as I definitely do not trust the dB ratings of any of these companys in comparison to each other.

You can't beat Panaflo IMO. papst are also good but pricey, mind you there like Silentx, over-rated and overpriced.

Those SilentX ones look sweet, the small hub should allow for a minimal deadspot. When I was aircooling I used an Enermax 120mm x 25mm, it's got adjustable speed and isn't too bulky at least for me it was the perfect compromise between performance and noise. I also ran a Panaflo Hi speed for a while but that thing literally shook the room when it was cranked up to full speed. It had a mad resonance thing going on so different panels on my case would rattle at different rpms :D

Not looking for bling, I'd go for Sanyo Denki as they just will not die and are quiet considering the amount of air they shift. Bling: Would go for the aluminium Panaflo or Evercool Aluminium as again they are both very quiet although they shift tons of air.

i can back teh panaflow m1a's they are not oo nosiy at 12v and brill at 7v especially if your looking at tehm for a rad where you may have 3 of teh devils

Phil

IK have M1A High fans, and theyre average ish noise, high CFM at 12v, but quite quiet at 7v (awesome tbh for the CFM) and 38mm deep, so nice for a rad :D

I'm actually going to use some new AcoustiFan DustPROOF Fans - they are supposed to be good.

Specs:

Full speed 12V DC = 56.3cfm / 24.7dBA / 1500rpm

Medium speed 7.5V DC = 41.5cfm / 15.6dBA / 1050rpm

Low speed 5V DC = 25.2cfm / <10dBA / 675rpm

I'm using 2 of them with the new PA120.2 so they shoud do nicely. Even at 12v they arent what I'd consider noisy.

Yate-Loon / Tricod / Nexus 120mm fans (all same thing) tend to be best for performance vs silence, especially on PA Series rads, which is optimised / designed around 25mm fans as opposed to 38mm fans (as 25mm fans are generally quieter).
