Fan Stacking!!!

ne one ever tried it?

i have a Noctua NH-U12P with a fan on either side,

today, just for funsies, i stuck an extra fan on the "in" side

(so there are two fans blowing towards the cooler)

just zipp tied it the other,

looks hilarious,

dropped my idle temp from 35 to 32,

cant complain,

mite try stickin one on the back too,,,

difficult due blade possitions may create some nasty turbulence for the next fan in line. Might end up with some nackered/very noisy fans.

I dont see how pairing fans up in series can do anything, your already moving the same amount of air....

If you push a fan too hard with another it will simply die ;D

I think they provide better pressure and therefore actually push their rated CFM. Push/Pull setups always beat (haven't looked into this much but I think) single fan setups so there must be something going on there

It's got something to do with the pressure. The 38mm fans do better than 25mm ones because they have a higher pressure. There are various threads on it on the net where the users find that using 2 yields better temps or allows them to lower the fan speeds while keeping temps the same (for quietness).

then actually i'd recommend the PFB1212UHE. it produces 252CFM

but that's just insane

Having had a look at some hard numbers (as opposed to forumite guesswork) it's clear that push/pull does, just about, lead to lower temperatures. Although not enough to justify the noise/price increase.

The thing that made me laugh are the people claiming two fan-shrouds work better than one. By that logic having the fan up the other end of the room and blowing down a tube would be better still. Fan further away always equals worse performance.

To keep on-topic, it's also proven that, if you're using two fans, push/pull is the way to go. Push/Push is pointless.
