fan speed reduce cable stopping PSU from starting

i recently got the switch 810 and decided that the fans were to loud so i got 2 of these

to lower the noise but problem is when i have one connected and 3 fans connected, system boots without issue but when i connect the second, all fans start up then stop, my GPU is still getting power because of the led on the back but it refuses to boot.

if i disconnect the second one and boot the system and them connect it after all is fine.

i have OCZ fatality 550W.

any thoughts on what i can do?

Assuming the wiring of both the fan cables is fine...

It can only be a problem with your PSU I'd have thought. OCZ make terrible PSUs.

If you connect the second cable first is it the same outcome? That should rule out a wiring issue - assuming you haven't already done this.

Also, have you plugged them in when the system is already on?

What are your specs?

That is because of the PSU

I had this happen with one of my old PSUs and XMS/Jim said it was something to do with the PSU's undervoltage protection.
(which is maybe why it only happens with more load on 7v with your psu)

Basically those cables are wired for +5v and +12v together to give 7v.
Some PSU's do not support this and result in not working at all with this configuration.

Yeah some PSU's aren't keen on the 7v trick. Wont do any damage, but as ya say it'll just cut out probably from UVP or something like that.

edit: not sure if this shows the psu is poor in any way so wouldn't say you need to buy a new psu

when the system is powered on then both plugged in works fine but wont boot with both in, to get around this ive got two intake and the 1 exhaust fans on 7v and the internal fan on 12, i was trying to avoid using my other molex cable if i can but how it works for now.

it was the fact it works once already on but fails to boot with both connected that made me post.

i have

switch 810
I3-2100
MSI Z68A-G43-G3
8GB Excelram Rippler
ASUS 7770
vertex 4 256 SSD
WD 500GB green drive
OCZ 550w

no the best system but plays tomb raider full graphics @ 1600*900.

If what EQUK said is correct - with a pair of tweezers you can change around the cables to 5v which should fix the problem if that is the cause.

It's just having too on the same cable that stops it starting.

i got a safety pin that i use for rewiring connectors and things :)

my RIG is working so just gonna use it like this :P
