Fallout 4 system requirements released

Ya IDK what ALX is on about. Last Fallout game was New Vegas back from 2010.. not even touching the engine would be quite stupid from a dev point of view when they are adding all that new and updated content to the game. Quite logical to say they updated it^_^

I'd say you can be sure it'll be updated in some shape or form. ;)

They used the Skyrim engine, which was new.

I've seen what the older FO3/NV engine can do when it's pushed and it barely looks as good as a basic unmodded Skyrim.

I can tell you now from looking at screenshots - this is the Skyrim engine. No more, no less.

Skyrims "Creation Engine" was a little poo and didn't handle multi core systems that well, Roughly only 2 cores are properly utilized plus it's from 2011 so I really hope they've optimized it.

None of Bethesda's engines have ever supported CPUs very well. On Fallout 3 you had to do a INI hack to run the game on two cores only, otherwise it would just crash all of the time.

I've no doubt that they may have done some work under the hood to the Creation engine, but as I said, looking at the screenshots (and putting down my rose tinted "Because it's Fallout 4" spectacles)?

This doesn't look any better than Skyrim.

But.

Let's not be too harsh eh? Skyrim was visually stunning in places. I remember making silly spitting noises when I first went through the snow lol. It was like I could get it in my mouth.

Again let me be frank here. Compared to something like Crysis Fallout 3 looked pretty bloody awful. But, and it's a frikkin HUGE but, at times it was absolutely and utterly breathtaking.

I took so many screenshots just standing on a patch of scorched grass with a cracked road underneath my feet and the sun shining through. It looked so miserably beautiful it took my breath away. And the view you got when you left the vault and realised that this game was soddingly massive?

There were loads of "whoah stop, let me just stand here and look around for a bit" moments in Fallout 3.

New Vegas had been ever so slightly tweaked and used (I reckon) a couple of the mods for Fallout 3 so looked slightly fresher and better. However, without this post becoming a filibuster, New Vegas was rather empty.

What I mean is, once you did all of the main quests and so on and so forth and went around looking for entertainment? there wasn't much to be had. Most of the buildings were just objects with no entrance nor quests or exploration to be had.

Mind you to be fair to Obsidian they didn't really get that much time to make the game, so that's why it feels more like a large DLC for Fallout 3 than a stand alone game.

Games like this are all about time. Quests take time to program. The longer you spend on the game the bigger you can make it, so I am hoping that they spent the entire 3-5 years (depending on who you believe) making nothing but pure content.

So to hell with the graphics tbh. I want hours !

Bleedin hell man, Try a nice short summarized paragraph instead of textbooks all the time :p

Sorry. Didn't realise that these days I must sit and make videos for people to watch because they're too damn lazy to read.

Oddly enough and on that subject. I don't even bother with sites that don't put up text based reviews any more. Not all of us are too lazy and or illiterate to want to read !

No need to be insulting dude but a summarized paragraph is preferable to people as from experience with others a long wall of text in a reply people tend to gloss over it.

not making the gfx nicer does not mean they didnt work on the engine at all..

I honestly don't care about the graphics, I care about the optimization :)

According to Wikipedia..

The Last-Gen Creation Engine offers basic real time shadows and more detail to distant objects. However the Next-Gen version of Creation Engine, that is powering Bethesda's newly announced Fallout 4, offers Physically Based Rendering, Dynamic Volumetric Lighting, the ability to build your own structures in-game, advanced character creation, etc.

Features[edit]

So some work has been done. If you watch both of the videos I posted you will see Todd Howard going through it.

Whether it likes more CPU cores? gonna have to wait and see would be my guess :)

No there really wasn't any need to be insulting, was there?

Apols for DP. Thought I was in edit, not new post.

Yeah it's the internet and some part of your original statement may have contained an element of exaggeration so facetious replies discussing the semantics of what you said were imminent.

Don't you know how it works yet? (I didn't need to say that and it didn't add to my point at all, however, internet)

I stand corrected. You literally just proved my point right after disagreeing lol

The thing is the work that has been done has been done to improve physics and lighting, not the textures.

I've no doubt that once you start moving around in the game's world it will look better, but my underlying point remains - this won't look any better than Skyrim really.

For example the animation still looks like a dog's mess that's been in the microwave.

Bit of a contradiction there dude.

Clearly allot of work has been done to this game under the hood anyone who has played any of Bethesda's main releases can see that I mean come on you couldn't get physics effects like the ones shown in the e3 demo if you hired a 100-man strong team of modders and told them to go to work!(I know a bit unfair as modders wouldnt have access to the engine tech but still) also textures are soooo much better than standard Skyrim ones no where near as good as many other modern AAA but much improved over their last title.

The lighting looks pretty good too sure the textures aren't QHD but lets be realistic no one needs textures that big and to me the art style is excellent I really appreciate the contrasting colors over the muted look of previous titles. I personally disagree with it not looking better than Skyrim, I think this will look quite a bit nicer than Skyrim (Maybe even nicer than Skyrim with some mods) but I guess we will just have to wait and see.

I agree with you in regards to the animation in some respects but animations are probably one of if not the hardest part about character design, if a player moves too fast they appear to float too slow and the animations moves before the character model itself its very difficult to balance, its still leaps and bounds above there previous titles from the limited looks we have been giving. Enemies look allot less static and allot more fluid look at a mole rat in Fo3/FNV then look at the same in Fo4, no comparison, walking/running/holstering/enemies movement same story leaps and bounds above the previous games.

I have been modding Bethesda games since Morrowind there is no doubt in my mind this game has allot more changed than what you can see in the content we have been shown, I cant wait for its release to dig around figure out how the building system has been implemented etc my only hope and my only worry is that the papyrus scripting system wont be changed all that much but I really really hope im wrong and they have made some improvements in its implementation.

Either way cant wait for release ( and for the first few patches because bethsoft :p )

I don't think it's a contradiction. TBH the lighting in Fallout 3 was one of its strong points.

It's only really the textures and horrid animation I have an issue with, and I'm sure I won't give a flying monkeys once I'm actually playing my Pip Boy edition :)

Might crack out some of my other Fallout collectibles later :)

You going to buy on release? I'm debating myself whether to wait for a patch or 2 or just buy it and suffer any bugs I come across?

I played Skyrim on release...on an XB360  at least this time I will have the console to help fix any issues I come across, so conflicted :(

Haha thats some serious commitment dude kudos to you :) cant wait to see what 5 years of development can do for the fallout franchise, started playing through Fo3 lately and man I forgot how good it is a game definitely needs a butt ton of mods to be relevant but damn its good!
