Any examples to share? I can't think of another FPS RPG on this scale. You clearly value graphics above all else and thats fine your entitled to that opinion, it is my opinion however if this team had focused more on graphics and less on content this franchise (the bethesda reboot that is, not the originals) in particular would not have been as successful as they have been, this is one of the most anticipated games of the last couple of years I think that speaks volumes to the talent of their dev team, certainly buggy but the wealth of content really supersedes those relatively minor issues
Well seeing that there are no other fps rpgs, I'll open it up to other rpgs

Heck, take Oblivion. Same folks and that (for the time) was really good graphics. The detail (for that time) of the foliage was insane. Also look at the GTA's. They have had a lot to do in them and always graphically been very good. You then have Witcher and DA series. Both graphically solid with tons to do.
Now why do you jump on the graphics wagon? I just said I want both and that it shows the
technical competency of a group - which is important.
Why not have both? Why do you think it is one of the other? As I stated, the guys who make graphics are a different team to those making the gameplay, objects etc. Plus it helps if the engine chosen is half decent.
Thing is, content is easy to make. Graphics are hard. That is my real concern over it all.
What would happen to those employees once art assets are finished? Also hiring more employees would increase cost, that increase in cost might mean other features and/or story would have to take a hit, maybe a worthwhile trade-off for some games I don't think these open world RPG's would benefit.[/quote]
More costs is right, but how about the publisher stops taking a huge cut or they shave a percent off their profit margin to cover these new overheads?
As for art - good PMing would prevent one team finishing early.
Again this is just my opinion but I think if a new studio came in tomorrow and managed to produce a title as detailed and larg as these have been they would be praised not ridiculed, whilst the graphics aren't great there more than passable to suspend my disbelief.
Well its good you like them, but looking around at reddit and forums, not many folks do like how it looks. Thing is these guys have how many years of experience so they should be producing more. Look at how GTA has grown, or even the TW series. The jump from FO3 to FO4? Pretty limited given the time, money, and experience of the studio.
Whilst I partially agree in regards to the employment of modders (some have been hired maybe not by BethSoft) you are making a statement based of a subjective opinion on graphics, if you where stating that the fundemental game was terrible then I would agree however I don't think this to be the case.
Graphics isn't subjective though. You can count polys, texture resolutions, what techniques they are using, compare the game against other games etc. It is actually 100% objective. What is subjective is how little someone wants from them and what aesthetics people are looking for.
