Extremely slow transfer rate? (solved)

I just got a brand new Samsung SH-224 DVD Burner and I'm in the process of re-burning my old backups onto new media - However when I transfer stuff from my drive to my HDD it takes forever. A simple 700MB CD takes about 3 minutes to copy from the drive to hdd which is pretty crazy. It sits around 2.5mb/s 3.0mb/s. Both are running SATA interface and I have no antivirus or anything installed.

I'm confused.

Edit: Just for kicks I tried copying to my ssd and it went crazy fast .. Which adds even more confusion as my hdd is fine and fast.

48x CD-R. Quite old, but they look like new when I take em out from the bag. I dunno, I'm puzzled.

Ah figured it out. Apparently if a drive can read regular cd-roms at 48x and above, there's a chance that the cd will shatter or crack or worse, so Samsung put the burner into silent mode for cd-roms by default to prevent that. Apparently DVDs are much more sturdy.

A quick disable of that mode using Samsung's "Magic Speed" cleared it right up.
