Hello,
i bought a Lacie Rikiki hard drive around 3 months ago and it has suddenly stopped working when i connect it to a usb 2.0 port. It works fine with usb 3.0 though. I have reformatted it and have checked for errors but it still doesnt work.

When i plug it into a usb2.0 i can hear the disc spin but the led light doesn't come on. Any suggestions?

BTW this is the hard drive:

and its the 1terabyte version.

sounds a bit like it needs more power to me ?

Have you got a usb3.0 port available on anything to double check it actually works on that?

Does it appear in device manager when you plug it in?

Have you tried different usb ports?

i thought that too... However, it used to work and it should work with usb 2.0 connectors...

It only appears in the device manager when i plug it in a USB 3.0 port.

Yep, i have tried it with loads of different computers, it does work with other USB 3.0 ports but still not on 2.0.

If you mean on the computer you're having issues with, (I think) why not just plug it into USB 3.0 port then?

Im having the same problem with any computer, not just my own. I need to be able to use the USB2.0 port. Not many computers have USB3.0 in Peru...(which sucks). Anyway i have send a message to lacie to see what they say. I will probably have to get another hard drive.

Found out the problem... one of the pins (where the usb cable plugs into) was bent back... took it to the shop of which i bought it from and a technician "tried" to fix it.... BUT he has actually made it worse. The hard drive wont even turn on... he must have broken the pin... now i either have to buy some sort of enclosure for it or buy a new external drive and try to sell the remains...

Anyway, thanks for all the help.

James.
