I have a question regarding a choice i have to make about my current HD5850 graphics cards.
The system that i own is three years old now, and appart form a ram upgrade (6Gb-->12Gb) and an SSD upgrade (Revodrive3x2
) nothing has changed. Up to this point i saw no need to upgrade anyting else since all the programs that i run, including some games, never had any performance problems, appart from some driver issues (jeej AMD).
Now since two weeks i got a little back to playing games and i bought far cry 3 and crysis 3... You can guess that running these games on crossfire HD5850's in eyefinity mode caused some problems...
Ususally i get away by just decreasing or swich off AA, but not in these games. On one monitor the games run fine and smooth (30-60fps) with everyting maxed out, hence the GPU power is still enough i guess, so the problem lays with the Vram which is just 1GB. The games become absolutely unplayable with sudden drops to 2-5fps, and not going higher than 25...
You can guess that i would like to opgrade the graphics cards, and i found myself in a dellema that possibly could be solved here.
What sould i do? Go for HD7870XT 2GB crossfire or HD7950 3GB crossfire...? In terms of GPU power both are most sertain powerfull enough and at more or less the same level of performance, but its the Vram and the price that makes the difference... It is for an eyefinity setup ofcourse, else i wouldn't replace the HD5850's afterall... I am not really interested in Nvidia cards, but if someone knows a better option than the cards indecated please do tell
