Expected overclock on 8800GTX

Guys,

I will shortly be purchasing an 8800GTX for project Karaoke.

What clocks can I expect to achieve if unit left untouched or with BIOS MOD?

What additional clocks can be expected if volt modded?

What cooling? Is this for 24/7? IMHO heat becomes the limiting factor very quickly with the stock cooler.

With some water and voltmods, ballpark 700MHz core should be ok? Stock cooler- maybe 630-640Mhz core for 24/7? Maybe some of the OC versions run higher, but the load temps are pretty nasty

Sorry Kenny mate I should of been a bit more clear.

In Project Karaoke (see watercooled gallery for details) the card will be watercooled with a separate 2x120mm rad/fan loop using an EK block and thermochill rad that I got at a bargain price off the bay.

So the question really is - just watercooled what would max clocks be?

Watercooled and voltmodded - what is the extra I can hope to achieve.

I doubt I will need more than 630/1800 for 24/7 use but it'd be a shame not to bench it higher :)

700MHz core-ish. I read that the A3 cores are creeping into some GTX and they clock better so ya might get lucky.

I asked about cooling and the backline so everyones on the same page and folk dont need to jump around the forum to find out the details... some folk dont read every thread..like me!- thanks for naming the project after my comment! :D

A3 = ultra core?

Thanks for info Kenny but so were are absolutley clear:

Watercooled with mods = ? Mhz

Watercooled without mods = ? Mhz

A3 = ultra core? The A3 was saved for the Ultra to start, but they're in some GTX now too.

Watercooled with mods = 710 Mhz

Watercooled without mods = 680 Mhz

("definately" no lower than those numbers)

by Heavy h20: Guys, just an FYI. The new ACS3 BIOS has a different delta alogithm, so the OC does not jump like the normal GTX BIOS. Normally, for example, it goes from 621 to 648. With the ACS3 BIOS, it moves up from in very small increments (ie 632.57,634.50,636.0 to 638.18). So, it may prove to be a better choice when you are pushing the limits. I am running it now. And, the stock 630/1000 is a decent starting spot. The stream clock is 1458 stock.

here is the bios i was using and i must say it worked well

i also no the main diff with ultra and gtx is the shader ultra has a 1500 somit shader and a core voltage 0f 1.35 up from the gtx 1.3

well that and the ram is better on the ultra:D

i never got to try the higher shader myself

the gtx is a great card with enough cooling skys the limit

i was pulling 850@1.6v/1223@2.2v -70
