EVGA Motherboard Replacement

About a week ago my beloved X58 Classified bit the dust. No idea what the cause is, but whenever the system tries to pull any significant power through the PCIe slots it loses power to the expansion cards. This occured with the graphics chips, where they would randomly give blank screens (screens powered down) after a few minutes to a few hours. It seems completely random, and meant that the PC was completely unusable. Also one of the SATA ports stopped detecting hard disks properly a few months back.

Having dropped a new X58 sabertooth in, without reinstalling anything else (windows is the same) the problems all went away. So I guess we can conclusively say it was some problem on the motherboard, although I don't know what. So this leaves me trying to RMA the board.

It is an EVGA board, with a ten year warranty, so I guess ordinarily they would just try to replace it with the same board, but this is no longer made, so they will probably try for the X58 classified 3. I would prefer them to give me the X79 Classified when its released, so does anyone have any experience doing this.

Should I try to get an X79 board from them (has this sort of step up ever worked for anyone), or do I get the board and try to sell it on Ebay or this very forum? I don't know whether I would get any interest for it though as it is X58. Advice/ideas appreciated.

Also please forgive the rambling nature of this post, I'm dosed up to the eyeballs on cold and flu meds.

I don't have any experiance with using the EVGA RMA or customer support as I have had no problems with my hardwear. I would wait until after November 15 (that seems to be the most recent rumor for the release of the X79 mobo's) or whenever that chipset and socket is released. After that just do your best to get the most recent chipset, you do have tem years wait afterall

Oh, and was it the Classified 3 or 4?

Classified 3xSLI it has since been suoerceded by the classified 3. Having seen the lack of SATA sockets on the X79, I'm probably leaning to getting an X58 board and selling it, but I'd prefer not to have the hassle.

also keep in mind they may have a back stock of boards for just such an emergency lol. I dont think you'll get a different socket type mobo out of the rma but they do have a step up program not sue it if applies to this and normally it has to be done within 90days of the origional purchase. I would not wait and risk them repairing ur board I'd rma now and hope ya get a new one of what died

No step up would be available (the board's over two years old). As they stopped making the board I have, and replaced it with a facelifted model (with SATA 3 and USB3), I'm hoping I can get one of those and sell it for £150-200. I'm a bit stuck at the minute because the heatsink (it's watercooled) is at the opposite end of the country, so I'll have to wait for that and the box before I can move on anything.
