EVGA 790i - Should I?

Ok so I'm planning to buy a EVGA 790i FTW mobo and shove a Q9650 CPU into it with 8GB of RAM.

My question is, should I buy this motherboard if my only intention is to use one GPU (8800GT Alpha Dog).

I want a high standard motherboard you see because I want all my components to be used to their full potential. I know EVGA make great mobo's but I'm starting to wonder if this is really the right mobo for me.

The aim of my new system is mainly for music production but I want to be able to play some wicked games on full spec (GTA4 mainly) aswell. I'm not looking to overclock anything either.

Any suggestions are welcome, I'm not too fussed about the money.

Cheers, Chris

Ok so I have also realised that the new Core i7's have come out? Should I wait a little longer and buy some of this new gear instead ?

Does anyone know if some of my components will drop in price due to the recent release?

Question is ur budget now and how often u want to upd8.

If u plan to regularly inject cash into ur rig and need the base to build off, u may consider the i7 as whatever the price is now isn't that relevant.

However, if u plan on buying the best pre-i7 stuff now and plan on replacing it around 1.5 years time, minimum, u can still go 775 imo. Sure it won't do the benchmarks the i7 may - but it aint gonna play GTA4 any better.

Well I'm mainly going to be producing music on it. I just need a lot of resources available for this. Processor power and memory are vital.

Not too fussed about games cos thats just for blowing off steam. The one GPU is fine as far as im concerned. I would like to play some hefty games tho.

I'd probably push u in the direct of an Intel 35/45/48 based mobo, 775 socket, with a decent price, lavish the memory department, good strong cpu, and a solid gpu.

Last u ages and cost minimal, do everything u want.

Aye that sounds perfect lmfao.

Ok well I looked at a few Asus mobo's. Seems like a good place to start. Thanks for the info mate.

Hey, so I recently been looking at the ASUS P5E64 WS Evolution iX48 - The only issue I've found is the fact that ASUS are crap when it comes to using all 8GB of Ram.

It takes a lot of knowledge about voltages and overclocking to get ram working at its full capacity in an 8GB config. I'm still thinkin bout buying this but instead using only 4GB. May leave the 8GB till I can be bothered to **** around for a few weeks.

Well I'm using a Production Sequencer with numerous Virtual Instruments located on my machine. Also Audio samples get introduced too. All in all I end up with a lot of software and samples running at once. The last thing I want is to spend loads on a decent computer then have it not do what was initially intended.

However I'm contemplating sing my current machine for Windows Live and other generic software and using the new computer soley for production and games. That should keep it free of crap and keep it running smoothly.

Obviously I want this computer to last for years to come. It'll basically be the forefront of my recording studio.
