ECC, maybe not.

Been skating around certain googled info on using various bits in a proposed setup.

Salvaged 2x 603 Dual Xeon cpus from an old compaq. The mobo sucks in terms of memory riser rerquirements. The rest is legacy, but manageable.

I've sourced a 2x 604 Dual Xeon Dell Precision mobo, which comes with pcie and etc. (another salvage source)

Now I'm aware the 603 will drop in the 604, and it's alledged the fsb on the 604 will do 400, so this is meant to be ok in theory.

The Precision has 2 banks of ddr2 memory slots. Now I been checking up on ECC and non ECC and rumor has it, as long as u don't mix them together in the same machine, u should be ok ? News on me, but it'd be kewl if it was true.

Any thoughts ?

that is weird, surely that cant be right, this is all server grade?I thought all server mobos were EEC only?

AFAIK the Xeon 603s need ECC RAM, so you will need to use this type of RAM - it's not a choice between 'normal' and ECC.
