ebay 2 much i fink.

I guess it's because they haven't updated prices within their store. This annoys me also, some companies still charge £300+ for old technology.

It can happen for rare cpus and memory arrays too. There's loads of people who build projects for specific jobs with funky software where paying £300 for an old Athlon cpu is cheaper on the grand scale of things than updating everything. More so if it's an unplanned downtime.

Its a 939 pin, they have been going up in recent months because it was the fastest processor released for the 939 socket. Alternatively, for that price, unless you were running DDR and AGP, it would be cheaper to get a mid range AMD board and new processor and probably even have enough for a mid range GPU or 4GB plus of RAM.

Nope, it is definitely cheaper to buy a 780G board, 4GB of DDRII 800MHz RAM, a 5000+ X2, a DVD writer and still have £15 change, obviously excluding delivery (sourced from Microdirect, so for me that actually would be the case). So better performance for less cash?!?

Unless you had an AGP card worth a huge sum I can't see why you would buy this processor.

I no that you pay a premium price for old stuff like agp n old ddr ram from shops,

thes days i seen a 6600gt 256meg agp last week in one shop i go 2 and that was,

67-pounds for agp the same shop sells the 9500gt 1-Gig ram pci-e for just 67,

pounds 2 lol.

theres all ways some think on ebay thats out of this world for the prices,

I guss that people get in a bidding war n forget about what there paying for +

then thers the post n packing on top of the pirce of what you have bidded for.

It also kinda explains why people like AMD carry on making lesser Sempron style cpus a long time after the Athlons of something like the 939 socket were all done.

There are situations that require them, but their small availability enables the price to be inflated.

When you can pick up a 939 4000+ for about £15 (I did) from a reputable trader, it seems strange to pay this much. My guess is that this shop saw the chips going for big bucks a little bit ago, bought them at top dollar and now can't sell them.

I struggle to see where you might need old tech like this, where a modern solution is blatantly cheaper, easier and better.

Hope that this shop is instead left with dozens of them that they can't sell. And then when they slash the price I jump and grab one to use for my old rig. I would like that processor but the price is prohibitory and despite the fact I donated that PC to my mum, I still use it the most (mainly to run internet searches while gaming or to run an AVG update so that the next one doesn't take a week).

:) more like some Drunk sufeing the internet when drunk out of there haed finking it a good deal there seeing on the screen.lol:D

i dunno bout you lot, but i would consider that a fair price, do you know how hard it is to get hold of 939 hardware of that power now?

i'm thinking bout one, i just got paid...and i cant find em anywhere else...

thanks for the link btw..

My point is, why would you keep the 939 board, when you could get a better am2+ board and a better processor (5000+) with enough change to buy 4GB of memory. If you want to spend that much, why not buy newer hardware.

It comes down 2 what people like in there p.c.set ups for me i use old stuff in my p.c.s but theres no way i would buy some old part for big money like that on e.bay in the link when i can just walk in a shop and buy some new state of the art parts for the price of 175 pound compared 2 that price on e.bay just for a old cpu.

if it was about 40 pounds then yer it would be a good deal
