I would much rather go for an AM2 setup if 939 costs more

id only consider older setups if they are significantly cheaper

Newer = runs cooler and generally faster in some form or another

Thinking about it...you can get a new intel setup (fairly decent) for that much (or am2)

there was a 486 cpu n mobo on e.bay ones about 4 mouths back and believe,

I have to agree, I had the 939 4400+x2 model when it was released having a hefty price tag. There was like 1 model in my price range above, but I decided to spend another 100 on graphics card. The above was an FX which then was around around £400-500+ on the top dual core standard edition. They released AM2 not long after and it was cheaper, that made me angry .

Was a great CPU though, I could run loads of stuff no FPS drops in games, unlike this Quad .

When you can pick up a 939 4000+ for about £15 (I did) from a reputable trader, it seems strange to pay this much. My guess is that this shop saw the chips going for big bucks a little bit ago, bought them at top dollar and now can't sell them.

I struggle to see where you might need old tech like this, where a modern solution is blatantly cheaper, easier and better.

In normal circumstances ofc u would never buy them.

Certain circumstances, these cpus are cheaper than the alternative might cos u or ur company more importantly.
