Early Dual GTS250 Card Performance Revealed

Reference should be 600/1000/1500 iirc, the tri fan thing is ofc not part of the setup. Be interested to see what the shroud ends up like.

Scores look good from Vantage. Im confused though, is the 250 not a slightly tweaked version of the 9800GTX? And is there not a 9800 GX2 which is basically 2 of those cores in one card?

I could be completelty wrong here though haha, but what is the difference?

There isn't one, come on, it's Nvidia, what do you expect? :p

Just a few tweaks and a new name

Well the GTS250 is technically a tweaked version of the 9800GTX+ which is the G92b core. Only difference is the GTS250 comes armed with 1gb of ram to combat the 4850. The difference between the 9800GX2 and this card is the fact that this is a single PCB, will run cooler, and takes alot less power. Since its 55nm prolly can OC better too.

Of course whats the point when you can get 2 5770s :p

Actually this has nothing to do with Nvidia. Galaxy is obviously bored with no GF100 and is trying to make more money off of extra G92b stock. :)

3dMark06 is very cpu dominant. Lower your cpu to a clock of 3.6 like their i7 and see what you get. Not only that, but 06 dosent get such a boost as Vantage does with SLI or Crossfire GPUs.

Chip dumping. Gotta get rid of that backlog of stock somehow. Gimmick. If this were aimed at the performance crowd then Galaxy would be releasing it under the BFG label.

How is a real card a gimmick exactly? :coffee:

Gimmick: n (sl) device, adopted for the purpose of attracting attention or publicity (Concise Oxford Dictionary)

Obviously you see this real card entering the retail channel at a price/performance point that makes it a credible competitor to the HD5xxx series cards.

GTS 250 in SLI is approximate to the HD 4890 in most gaming scenario's at 1920x1080 and 1680x1050 with a good level of eye-candy. Both card options don't allow for DX11. To be competitive a dual GTS250 would likely need to retail for 60% of the price of 2 single GTS250's.

I'd also bear in mind that the HD5770 is cheaper and has DX11, and once GF100 launches ATI is likely to drop prices on the HD 5870, which in turn will compress pricing of the HD 5850.

Unless you figure GF100 to be JHH's whacked out pipe dream, then the only way this card sells is if it's sold at a loss. Or are you expecting this card to outperform two SLI'ed GTS250's and to approximate the performance of a HD5850 ?

I can see these being a favourite amongst folders provided the drivers are good and they are not over expensive. Other than that I'm not really sold on the idea myself
