E6750 duo or Q6600 Quad

Before actually getting one, I would have stepped in here and said there`s no point in getting the quad cos very little stuff uses multiple cores and a E6750 is an outstanding cpu... blah blah
The E6750 is an outstanding cpu for it`s price, however I don`t know if it was the move from amd to intel multiple core cpus, or new mobos, or even vista, but I found almost immediately that the cores get used quite a bit more efficiently than they used to.
Games maybe not too much as yet, although they`re sposed to. I still look down from playing Crysis and the 4th core is around 25% and the rest are almost zero.
Both great cpus, imo. But if u can stretch to it, get the quad.

Quad Core is good, and at £150 for the Q6600, great value.
Futureproof yourself a little more than dual core, OC it to 3.6GHz and lay back and watch the folding churn through for 43461 (or we beat you with a stick
)

If you want performance now go for the E6750 if you want to future proof yourself as much as possible go for the Q6600.

Depends if you like benchmarks or not!
Benchies love quads. Games love high frequency. You can get a higher frquency on two cores. Not many games are multi-core. Crysis shows negligible gain with a quad. Vista is more efficient using cores. Future games will use more cores better. When who knows.
I don't think it matters much. i went for quad on the basis it gives better scores in benchmarks and in games that use more cores it outperformed dual cores. I was hoping with greater optimisation the quad lead would extend. Guess that won't be for a while. By then I'll prob have a different rig!

Thing is tho m8, atm I`m not sure if there`s £40 difference between them. Might be more like 30 something now.
