e6600 @ 3ghz /w stock Vcore and spd enabled?

Hi, I was going to try out overclocking my e6600 for the first time and wanted to check acouple of things first. The guide I was going to follow said to up Vcore to 1.4, vMCH to 1.55, vFSB to 1.4 and increasevICH by 0.1. I have read a lot of people saying the can get to 3Ghz @ stock voltages . Would it be safe just to try with stock first time and if its stable after an orthos (or similar) test for few hours I assume its fine as long as I watch temps? Also is it right I should put SPD enabled on the P5W DH board instead of using crucial's suggested memory timing's of 4-4-4-12 for the ballistix 6400 memory I have?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi - I wouldn't suggest using SPD with anything but the most generic ram. Keep using the timings suggested by Crucial.

As for the E6600 - whack the FSB up. For 3GHz you should be good with no need for voltage adjustment (and watching the temps only becomes a real issue when you start adding voltage anyway). You *should* be able to hit 3GHz on stock volts, most can including myself, but you may need a sligh bump.

Go for the Orthos stability and if that's fine you should be good to go.

Good luck :)

Well tried it and had orthos running for 3 and a bit hours with no errors and memtest86 ran all night with none so seems good :D

I have the memory set manually at 1:1 so it runs at as 5300 is there anything to gain by running it at 6400 (its rated 6400 btw)?
